What's an example of a common happening? HELP!?

Okay, so I have to write 2 paragraphs about a common happening, explain it and come up with an experiment. Can you help? PLEASE.

A common happening is, for example, losing materials in school. You could survey children in a classroom and make a chart to represent your data. Then, based on the data, you could create a pie graph of how many children lost their pencil, how many lost their paper, how many lost nothing, etc. Include percents of the total number of children in each category.

Uh.. duh.  The sun rises every morning.  There's an example.  I could perform an experiment to determine the exact time of the sunrise using a sun dial or something.

Here's another.  Every morning my alarm clock wakes me up.  What kind of experiment could I perform on the effects of sound on a sleeping person?
