when sombody has a 3 octave range, what does that mean?

  1. The word comes from the word for eight. It's the eighth note in sequence from a starting point on the scale. Three octaves is quite a range.

    When you sing in the next higher octave, then the note will be 8 notes higher than the note in the lower octave. Imagine singing wit notes hetting higher:

    Do re mi fa so la ti do re mi fa so la ti do

    The second set of "do re mi"s is sung at an octave higher than the first set.

  4. An octave is a sequence of eight notes (typically forming a scale) with the start and end notes being the same pitch at different frequencies (ie one is higher than the other.) Three octaves would mean going up do re mi fa so la ti do three times.

    I've only ever heard of Julie Andrews having that kind of range. :)
