  1. Go to the Jewish quarter and have a great lunch. Try their fried artichokes or fried olives. Yummy.

Every where in Rome is very cool. Very few places that have not been discovered.

  2. I guess this one below could not be the tip you were waiting for but by reading yr question it suddenly came to my mind this place not so far from Rome.

About 30 miles south of Rome & 2 miles from Anzio ( the beach's invasion point on the northern edge of the town of Nettuno) you will find The American Cemetery & Memorial. This Memorial & Cemetery honors those killed in the liberation of Italy during the World War II . The Allies (mostly American) came by sea to Anzio beach on January 22, 1943 to liberate Anzio, Nettuno, & Rome from the n**i-German Military. It was a bloody battle; sacrifices were many. This cemetery & memorial pays tribute with 7,862 white marble crosses & Stars of David which serve as grave markers. Sadly, 488 of these crosses & Stars of David are for unknown service members. Most of these young men died before their 20th birthday! In the Chapel at the center of the cemetery, there are 3,095 names of missing service members from this general area. Their names are carved into the walls of this chapel. It is indeed a sobering experience to see row after row of crosses & stars & then to touch the engraved names of so many young men whose lives had hardly even begun. It was a poignant moment that left us with admiration for that so special generation. A simple bronze plaque reads: "1941-1945 In proud remembrance of the achievements of her sons, and in humble tribute to their sacrifices, this memorial has been erected by the United States of America". Quite recently (2004), Egyptians were arrested near Rome because it was found that they planned to attack the American Cemetery & Memorial in Anzio/Nettuno among other high profile places nearby. They wanted to make a statement against the American military. I don't like war, I like peace, but all these youngs died to allow us being free.God bless them !!

I'm Italian and I'll never forget what other Countries (and their sons) have done for us.

  3. go to "piazza dei cavalieri di malta", near the metro stop "piramide". you might see some people peeping in the keyhole of a door (the entrance of the smom, "sovrano militare ordine di malta", the smallest state in the world".

look in the keyhole, i wont tell you what u will see so you can have the surprise.

  4. The catacombs. Not only are they interesting, but they are really cool. You get to go under ground, get out of the sun and become a part of some very interesting history.

  5. A really nice place to visit is the Garden of Tivoli.. Villa de Este.  It is about 1/2 hour away from Rome, going east.  The enourmous garden has one of the most beautiful fountains in the world, especially the 100 fountains.  It provides amazing view over the city of Rome and Tivoli.  It a great place to spend an afternoon.  Hope you enjoy it.

  6. Take a walk down the Via Appia! Pick a nice day and head down this ancient road, into the countryside. If you go in the morning or late afternoon, you can also see the catacombs as Cale suggests (they're closed in the early afternoon).
