  1. It is a place where all the Liverpool supporters live

  2. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Island and Denmark

  3. For the most part, this is straightforward: Scandinavia encompasses Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland without question.

It gets a little more complicated with Finland. Finland is easily included along with the others when the countries are referred to as "Nordic" -- however, when you're rapping with scholars on the topic, it gets a bit more difficult to untangle.

I once called Finland a "Scandinavian" country in the presence of a Finn and nearly got my head bit off. "We're not Scandinavians!" he said. To him it was as simple as that.

To make a long story short, linguistically, Finland is not of the same stock as the Scandinavian countries (Finnish belonging to the Finno-Ugric language family) and, studies are indicating, they are not of the same genetic stock, either; Scandinavians tend to be taller, with more blonde /red hair in evidence, whilst Finns, though fair- skinned as well, are somewhat smaller and tend more toward brown hair and dark eyes. (Obviously you will have your fair share of blondes and blue-eyed individuals etc. in Finland as well.)

The argument for Finland being included in the count of Scandinavian countries is that it had been under Swedish rule for quite some time and thus acquired many of its cultural  and linguistic aspects (indeed, Swedish is the second official language of Finland).

So, it really depends on whom you ask. I think the majority of people would not have a problem with Finland being grouped in as part of "Scandinavia," though there are many who feel that it is erroneous to do so.

  4. Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway.

The northern Europe countries that have a viking history (as in 'where the vikings came from' rather than where they went).

  5. Ah yes, "Island", my favourite Scandinavian country indeed!
