Question:

What's available in a 9mm rifle?

I'm looking to purchase a 9mm rifle because I like the inexpensive ammunition. I've found a few, not many. I would like to keep the price below $1000 but would be willing to go up to $1500. (Yeah, I know, you can pay that for a rifle and are worried about feeding it!) Do you have any recommendations of rifles I should check out? Oh, I already decided I don't want the Beretta.

  1. Check on Gunbroker.com, you should be able to find a Vector Arms semi-auto Uzi for about $650-675, they are awesome guns.  I picked one up recently, and it is very reliable and accurate.  If you buy one, make sure you buy Winchester White Box ammunition.  Uzi's need hot loads to run properly, and I'm still experimenting with different factory brands to find those that work.

Also look at the AR-15's chambered for 9mm.  Olympic Arms, Rock River Arms, several companies make them, look around and find one you like.  I would personally stick with the Uzi, just because they are tough and they look mean.  If we get another Democrat in office, the prices might take a jump, so get one soon.

  2. OK...... I too only purchase rifles that use inexpensive ammunition. 9MM is a good choice.... Consider the HI-Point 9MM... Yeah Yeah - I know they are cheap and a little ghetto looking but they sure are fun to shoot. They are also very reliable. Using 12 inch steel plates I have worked my way up to 100 yards and am able to hit it 8 rounds out of 10 in the magazine (without my glasses on too!)..... They are accurate.... If you have $1000 to $1500 to play around with then just buy one anyways - I like them so much I bought 2 !..........

For a more quality 9MM look for the Ruger PC9 --- This is a very fine rifle. There out of production but I see these at gun shows and at gunbroker.com in unfired / new condition for around $500 to $700.... My friend has 2 and he let me borrow one for and afternoon. What a fine rifle is all I can say!!!

Also to consider if you want more quality but with cheap ammunition is an AR15 chambered in 7.62X39MM...... This cartridge can be had in bulk 1000 rounds for about $200

  3. From the getto pretty much covered all of them,I think you should get a AR-15 in 9mm,they can be a blast to shoot.

  4. Personally I like the Ruger PC-9, 9mm carbine.  I bought one new about eleven years ago for less than $295.  I imagine they are still less than the price range you've listed.  The PC-9 uses the same magazines used by the Ruger P-89 pistol  Aftermarket magazines are available that hold twenty and thirty rounds.  Both the P-89 pistol and the PC-9 carbine are ultra-reliable.

If you want to spend more then look at the M-15 9mm versions.

    Good luck.

  5. the little Highpoint 9mm (or .40) is a great little rifle that works!!!

  6. If you can find a Ruger PC9, they are great rifles and they are very reliable. Hi cap mags are available, and the mags interchange with the P Series 9mm pistols. You could have the rifle and the pistol for less than a grand. Ruger has also incorperated it's proprietary scope base and ring system on this rifle; this system offers an extremely solid mounting for your scope. They are no longer made, but if you are patient and watch the gun auctions, one will pop up. It is my thought that they will become collector items, as they are a sought after item, and its hard to get people to part with them. Ruger also makes the PC4, which is a 40S&W version.

HI-POINT makes the 995 carbine; there is a lot of them out there. They get mixed reviews, but for the price you can't go wrong. They can be found brand new for like 300.00. The stock is ugly as sin, but ATI has come out with a replacement stock that makes it look like the beretta CX4 Storm.

The 9mm Marlin Camp Carbine is also another option. They look like a normal hunting rifle, but they do make aftermarket stocks. Again they are no longer in production, but well sought after, which proves their value in my eyes. A lot of people swear by them.

  7. I've shot a hi-point rifle in 9mm and it shot well and worked flawlessly. Not to mention, they are only $220 retail in black and $235 retail in camouflage. I own a hi-point pistol in 9mm and it works pretty good for only $150 retail, although I only paid $139 for it. Hi-point is a good quality product made in the U S of A for under $300 and it has a lifetime repair warranty no matter if you are the original or 10th owner.
