  1. Burn in issues with cheap ones but LCD's have this problem too. Really short shelf life. Plasma seems to weaken around 5 years and cost alot to repair might as well buy a new one. Plasma used to beat LCDs hands down but that was because LCD's had a bad angle issue (you couldnt see a clear picture unless you were right in front of it) but now LCD's are alot better with angles. I'd go with an LCD if i had a choice (i dont because i have kids and LCDs are expensive) because of the life of the tv. If the LCD's start going bad, you can usually replace the backlight which requires taking apart the screen but if you have someone else do it, it wont cost as much as repairing a Plasma TV. my dad actually has a plasma tv and it takes like 10 seconds for it to warm up before it turns on. He thought it was broke the first time he started it up but its a cheap one but his LCD tv comes on instantly.

  2. they do come cheaper but dont let that fool you...they burn out very quickly so you should just roll with the LCD...get a Samgsung their worth it....they are great especially if you play video games...

  3. their life span isnt much

  4. Nothing. Their picture is brighter, and the the color spectrum is A LOT more expansive than those of LCDs. The power usage is no more than that of the screen on an arcade console or a laptop screen. HOWEVER unlike LCDs, the power usage varies greatly per the tint of each picture sequence. Basically, the lighter or the darker the picture that is being displayed on the screen is ultimately what determines the power usage. And as far as the life span is concerned, nothing to worry about. The life span of the newest generation of Plasma TVs is estimated to be 60,000 hours of display time, in simple terms that translates out to 6 hours a day for 27 years. Their weight is a fraction of your everyday LCD. The only thing concerning LCDs is just the thought of having a Liquid Crystal Display TV in your living room, is just, well, cool.

  5. A lot... energy usage is high, get a lot of heat, prone to die early, fragile (it has glass sheets to keep the gas in, if the glass cracks, say bye bye), lower contrast ratio, lower quality.

A couple plasmas are good, but still not worth it because they burn out / die out early.

  6. some cheap plasmas have a burn in problem which means that a part of the screen image will freeze forever. this usually happens when u leave the tv on for a long time on a channel such as cnbc since it has a permanent stock ticker.

  7. Cheaper models will have a greater chance of burn in (avoid the K-Mart blue light special).

Also, the screen is very reflective. Sometimes, it's like a darkly tinted mirror.

They seem to put off a lot of heat so they need to be placed where they can remain cool.

I've heard that they use more electricity, but MORE is probably relative to  what LCD's use.
