  1. hi-def usually use progressive nowadays.the best hi-def tv would be sharp as most people say.

  2. Progressive is always better.  720p and 1080p are what you are looking for in an HDTV.

The reason why there are two different formats is because tube TVs are interlaced.  Progressive came out to improve the image and provide more fluid video.

As far as brands, LG, Panasonic, and Samsung are good models.  I would stay away from Vizio, Sony, Pioneer, Toshiba, Sharp, and off-brands.  While Sony and Pioneer are great brands in general, their TVs tend to be overpriced with marginal or no image improvement over the brands mentioned above.

  3. 720P and 1080P are better than 1080I

    As for TV brands

    Sony,Samsung,Sharp,LG,Toshiba

are the one's I would recommend big brands are the one's you want to buy as they have better quality design and build,

  4. Progressive scan is better for high resolution.

I prefer the Sony XBR LCD HDTV over any

other on the market.  Or Pioneer Elite if you

want a plasma.  A set that does 1080p is the

highest resolution you can get on the current

    consumer electronics market.  However, only

the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will give you this

resolution, otherwise, the 1080i/720p set is.

  5. interlaced and progressive is just a means of putting the picture on the screen

progressive is top to bottom and interlaced is lines 1 3 5 7 9 then lines 2 4 6 8 and so on

when buying a hd TV the ultimate at the moment is 1080p but only if your thinking of buying over 42 inch as with a 32 inch and 37 inch you will not see much difference between 720p and 1080p.and will just be a waste of money

don't be afraid to buy lesser known brands as some are just as good as big brand names with a smaller price tag,

you may also be best opting for a TV with digital as the switch over is coming soon.hope that helped

  6. You have to get a 1080P TV set if you want 1920 x 1080 resolution on a Plasma, LCD or DLP TV set.....otherwise you only get a 720 or 768 display panel, not a 1080 display panel....

    CRT projection TVs are 1080i.....period.

    Always have been....

Now....your signal that you are watching comes from one of two sources....

CABLE/Satellite or DVD, and here is where it's important to know your source....

ALL TV signals from Cable/Satellite cannot transmit 1080P, they can do 720P or 1080i and the difference between 1080i and 1080P signals are negligible......

UNLESS you have a 1080P BLU RAY DVD PLAYER !!!

There's the KEY to making your choice.....

Start with a 1080P TV set and you'll never come up short on flexibility....now or in the future.

Now, what's the BEST NAME? Select these names and you get the best for the TYPE of TV you want to buy.......

SONY --- LCD Panel TV sets

PANASONIC  --- Plasma Panel TV sets

MITSUBISHI  --- DLP projection TV sets, and wait for their LASER DLP TVs to come out in Christmas.

Now Samsung presently makes an LED Lamp based DLP that is out right now, and these 2nd generation LED Lamp based units are just fantastic !  The brightness ! The color intensity is amazing on those !!

And you don't have to pay $250 every 3 years for a new lamp on them, or the Mitsubishi LASER TV set.

    That adds up.
