I have a 2wire dsl modem/router with 4 ethernet jacks and 1 usb port and im wondering what is better to use to connect to the internet/download stuff? I know its possible to use USB to connect, you just need a driver, but is it better or slower than the standard ethernet cable (cat5)??

  1. USB runs at 480mbps where typical Cat5e network connection will run at 100mbps but can support Gigabit ethernet which is 1000mbps.  All of this is irrelevant because Cat5 is more than enough to support your internet speed, which is probably no more than 5mpbs.  The patch cable will connect you to your router at 100mbps, but you will only be able to browse the internet at a maximum 5mbps, assuming you have some type of high speed internet.  So, don't waste your time installing the driver for USB.  Use an ethernet patch cable (Cat5e).

  2. Ethernet is better.
