  1. get a big bag save money and the plant lot better

  2. Why not do both? You cannot readily recycle pet food bags. You need to first cut both ends and separate the paper liners from the plastic sandwiched inbetween and recycle the paper and plastic accordingly. Furthermore, your dog should have a diet that consists mainly of meat. That being said, you should mix both. There are excellent dry pet foods and excellent wet foods out there. You just have to be aware of which to purchase. Ideally, your dog would appreciate it if you would make his food. There are numerous great recipes out there to do so.

If you decide to continue to purchase pet food, buy both and give your dog an assortment. Both options can be environmentally friendly.

  3. Best solution is to pick up road kill and take it home for rover. Nothing to discard, cleaner roadside.

  4. Check with a few professional dog breeders -- most dog breeders feed good quality dry dog food only. It makes them healthier and prolongs life. Wet food is a scam, it is genreally out of balance nutritionally for the dog's needs and makes for mis-shapen and smelly stools.

There must be some stores near you which offer dry dog food in bulk containers. Try Co-ops, Whole Food Stores. etc. Buy the dry dog food in regular pastic bags -- much easier to recycle than dog food bags -- and then take the same bags back when you run low. Keep the dog food in a separate container that has a locking lid, and keep it dry (like a small locking lid trash can or other larger plastic locking lid container).

When the dry food is low and you are going to add to what is left in the container be sure to first put the remaining dry food into a separate container (or bag), add the new stuff, and then put the older dry food on top . . . mix it around a bit so that the "flavors" blend in case there have been any modifications to the dry food. Your dog will never know the difference.

If you have a long hair or if you notice the coat is not especially shiny -- add ONE (and only one) tablespoon of Mazzola Corn Oil to the dry dog food when you feed it (if a small dog, use a teaspoon). The corn oil promotes skin health and shiny coats, but you do not want to over do it.

As far as your original question . . . "What is better for the environment?" . . . well, the truth is that it is better not to have pets. Pets have a high carbon footprint, especially when the carbon expense of vets, medicines, operations, cemeteries, toys, etc are honestly considered when computing carbon footprint. Even without those considerations just the carbon foot print of the food and its distribution, the space it takes up in stores . . . the lighting, the heating, etc. It is a considerable carbon profile.

If your animal is "working" -- herding sheep, outside and guarding property, in the K-9 core, a "helper" to someone in need, then it is probably earning its way, carbon wise. But this is not the case with the vast majority of "pets" in this country or most "advanced" nations. We lavishly expend carbon on them that we cannot afford . . .

Lots of folks talk about change, but they usually mean someone else has to change. Until we come to understand that change needs to apply to all of us, and that any and all of our excess carbon producing behavior needs to be examined we probably will not achieve the carbon reductions that are minimally necessary to prolong life on the planet.

At any rate, keeping your animal healthy will reduce its carbon footprint, just as you and I by staying healthy reduce ours. That is why good quality dry food is the best for the environment -- it is best for your dog.

  7. Maybe its me & I like for things to be simple. We save the world little by little if we recycle and try to use less power energy, gas from day to day. Reusing grocery bags writing papers and whatever else you can before simply throwing away(as long as it is sanitary). Doing this as much as you possibly can save you more money and the world at the same time.

  8. Clenliness which can only be obtaind if the people of the world or the country looks into the matter and stop doing rubbish things.infact,we too do this like throwing away plastics, paper, etc.there is unlimited problems which are dangeroud to our environment.
