I have my choice of either one for a 5 day cruise.... we are a couple celebrating a major anniversary on this cruise. We know there will be kids on each one but not ours!

Looking for good points and bad for each cruise line.

Cruise will probably take place next summer.

  1. ROYAL CARIBBEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MOST DEFINATLY!!!!! RC has such great service. The staff is absolutly wonderful. They treat you like royalty and has so many activities and relaxing places. They also have kids areas so there wont be too many little ones running around! :-)) There are special anniversary packages and its really nice! my vote totally goes to RC!!!!! I have heard A lot of bad expiriences on Carnival and sure its cheaper but is it worth spending all that $$ for a bad expirience? We've been on 3 cruises and they were all RC we wouldn't want anything different!! We LOVE RC and its awesome!!!

  2. CARNIVAL!!

  3. By carnival cruise lines. do you also include Princess which is owned by Carnival. I certaintly hope so because if you are only comparing royal carribean and carnival, there is no comparison. Royal carribean beats the heck out of carnival, but Princess is just as great as royal carribean or even better. Now you must never forget cunard and crystal cruise lines as they are the top two of all time.

  4. Glamorous, elegant, family-friendly and fun are what come to mind when talking about Royal Caribbean's newest ship: Freedom of the Seas. Determined to make Freedom the most innovative and adventurous ship of its fleet, Royal Caribbean built Freedom to be the largest passenger ship ever, then added one-of-a-kind features sure to impress.

    Let the Adventure Begin

One of the most talked about activities is the Flowrider®. This exciting surfing ride gives the feeling of hanging ten on a Maui wave, all right from onboard Freedom. Grab a board and catch a wave. It's easy to learn and fun to master.

  5. I much perfer RC to Carnival... Carnival is cheaper but I liked RC best.

  6. Carnival is the WalMart of cruising.  It's ok...but you get what you pay for.  Royal Carribean is, by far, more superior.  The service is better.  Carninval is more of a "party" cruise and skews younger and laid back, while Royal Carribean in a bit older--some may think "stuffy", but certainly more polished.  It's all a matter of what you prefer.

  7. As a cruise specialist, both cruise lines have pros and cons. Royal is a great line for the more active, busy, 'needing something to do' cruiser. All of their ships have rock walls, and some even have ice skating rinks, golf, and a promenade mall with shops and food. Of course, relaxing is possible on Royal, but the other activities there make it easy to find something to do while onboard.

Carnival can tend to be slightly less expensive, which could be a plus, however, it all depends on which ship, sail date, and itinerary. Their 5 day cruises have ships that have the H2O water park and huge slides. If you're not taking the kids, this may or may not be an added plus for you! Carnival has upgraded their bedding, ships, and overall onboard experience. I highly recommend them. I would need more of a feel of what your needs and expectations are to recommend which ship I think would be right for you. I'd be happy to help you further if you'd like!

  8. If you want a cheap cruise, if you don't mind lots of noise, if you dont mind lots of party type noise during the dinner meal, choose Carnival.  If you want a relaxing cruise, going to the same places as Carnival, choose Royal Caribbean.  RCL is at the top of our personal listing.  I think you can tell where Carnival is on our listing.  We have sailed 17 times via: RCL, NCL, Princess, Celebrity, and Carnival (this is not our preference listing; just lines we sailed with).

  9. Well, we have been on two Royal Caribbeans and one Holland America and we're going on another Royal Caribbean this summer. I would reccomend not to go on Holland America because the average age is 70 (i'm 13 almost 14). My aunt and uncle who have been on at least 20 cruises said Carnival isn't really that nice. They say Royal Caribbean is up there. I personally love Royal Caribbean. They have nicer and bigger ships, friendlier people, better food, and just an overall better atmosphere. I would reccomend Royal Caribbean....there tends to be a lot of families, but not as many as Carnival....Carnival is kinda like the cheap seat of cruise lines.

  10. What is better is a relative question.  It depends on what you are looking for in a cruise.

They both go to awesome places. Services are good. Food is wonderful.. Entertainment.. a bit cheesy.. Price.. it's the best vacation around.

Having said that my wife and I have travelled on Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival. I'm  38 and my wife is 35.  We prefer Royal Caribbean because it's not as flashy, lots of neon /vibrant colors and loud music as it is no Carnival.

As is know, Carnival is a 'Fun' Cruise... lots of people drinking and partying. if we were  28 and 25.. maybe Carnival would be more to our liking. Don't get me wrong.. Royal Caribbean is still fun, lot of people drinking and enjoying the sun, music and people dancing and etc... it's just more to our taste.

Food, we like the Royal Caribbean food better. it's just our taste.. you may feel differently.

Sales pitch. Both lines come at you to buy stuff and more stuff. Photographers are everywhere snapping your picture, wine packages sold to you everywhere... liquor and mixed drinks... aaahhh!!! leave me alone!!!!

Entertainment... both places, they are cheesy at best.   But we LOVED, i mean LOVED, the ice show on the Voyager class ships on the Royal Caribbean. (but that's a 7 day cruise, well worth it... ice skating on the ocean.. it's excellent!)

You should try both and see what you like better. But the problem is that even on the same cruise line, let say Carnival, every cruise is a different experience and you may enjoy one ship.. but not the next.. you may get great service and so-so service on a different cruise.. so no one can say what is the best or better.

Having said all this, I prefer Princess cruise line.. we are not twenty somthing anymore and Princess offered more relaxing cruising experience and finer appointments and higher service level.  But in Feb 09, we are going on a 7 night souther caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean so go figure huh?  We like the price and value of Royal Caribbean most of the time.. that's probably why we are alrady platinum member.

In the Summer, it will be very expensive, because the cruise lines know it's the travel season and they can charge that much but it will be fun. For the money, it's the best vacation bar none!  If you can go before Jun and after August (school is back in) then it would be a lot less expensive.

Don't worry about Hurricane season in the Caribbean.. i've sailed in September, October many times and if there is a threat of severe weather.. ship goes around the storm... one benefit you will never get on a land vacation.

    Enjoy!
