What's bothering you?

As an American, what do you believe is the biggest threat to the future of the United States? Does it affect you personally, financially, religiously, mentally, etc.?

I would also be interested to know your age range (you don't need to be specific)... I would just like to see if the concerns vary through the generations.

I am writing a short paper and would like to compare your views with the random selections from my community. I notice a great difference between the responses from my local population and the answers I have received from friends nationwide. Thanks in advance and look forward to reading your responses!

  1. Ourselves. Sure we could go to war and stuff. But only we can tear ourselves down. Currption Inflation loss of jobs. everything can go wrong.

  2. An anti-abortion law. If women aren't allowed to have control over their bodies, isn't that taking a step backward in time? Religion and State are seperated for a reason, and since most people who are against abortion are against it for a religious reason, a law against it would really be illegal.

  3. i guess its the fact that men try soo hard to solve out problem and it only causes more problems. i honestly can care less who becomes our nxt president. nothing will get better. annd if it does. its something we're gonna have to watch out, for those of u who are religious out there read 1thessalonians 5:2,3.

financially? ha! where do i start and where do i end? by the time u know it, we're gonna b left without jobs, or food.

ppl are going crazy trying to figure out a way to make ends, meet. heck psycologist are gonna need psycologist.

what about college? chances are less are gonna b going. i mean budget cuts are so bad, that no longer does bright futures or w/e gives out scholorships to students with a 3.0 gpa. and colleges are gonna be more strict about who gets in and STAYS in. i'm telling u we're hit rock bottom.

  4. Oh God. I can't pick just one. So I'll make an umbrella.

Neo-conservatism is the biggest threat, because it contains all the other biggest threats. I think religion may be one of the biggest threats. Organized religion. Religion has fought progress tooth and nail ever since religion and progress both existed.

Also, anti-environmentalism. Anti-feminism. Anti-education. Anti-science. Anti-progress. America has seen the most money ever spent in its history... abortion rates rising... cost of living sky rocketing.... environmental regulations rolled back... personal freedoms removed...

Yes. Neo-conservatism will see this county destroyed.

  5. The relations between people themselves!

Lack of respect, endurance, honesty, etc.

It worries me so much that so many people spend too much time locked in front of a computer, all alone, often being someone they themselves are not (be it in a fantasy game or a chat room), instead of spending time with friends and family, interacting, discussing what's really going on in the world, in your neighborhood!

It seems to many people today expect the schools to raise their children...get 'em there as early as possible (pre-pre school, all day long, with as many after-school activities as possible), so they can work as much as possible, to buy the newest electronic devices to hopefully 'babysit' the kids during the weekend if possible. And then use that device as the parenting tool ('I'll take your I-pod away if you don't listen), only to give in to the whining kids again after a couple of hours since it's easier..

I am 44, I know that not all families function like that, I know that many families are almost forced to live like that (e.g. single mom with several kids, exhausted from the 2 jobs, will have to use TV for hours on end just to get a break), but too many people out there are just not interacting enough anymore!

  6. I just think America needs to change and the people in our country. we need to be respectful of our earth and we need to come together instead of fighting against each other i mean were going against everything george washington asked in his farewell adress

  7. i'm 21.

the environment!  it affects every facet of life.  personally - because of financial and habitual reasons, the high cost of oil affecting me everyday.  our reliance on fossil fuels without investment in alternative energy drives up the cost of everyday life.  it also requires that i think about ways to reduce my carbon footprint.  i think twice about taking a long bath, driving to target for just one item, and throwing away and aluminum can.

  8. I think our problem is division, along ethnic and party lines, among others.  If black and white, Republican and Democrat, could learn to work together, there wouldn't be so many problems, from violence in the streets to stupidity in Congress. Washington tried to prevent the formation of parties because he believed division would be the downfall of our country, and he was right.

I'm 14...don't discount me because of it, please.

  9. 25-30,,,,The biggest threat to the future of the United States is the presence of lobbyists in Washington.  They control the politicians that are suppose to be working for the average taxpayer.  It angers me because lobbyists affect not only me but every tax payer personally, financially, religiously and mentally.  I'm tired of the Iraq war.  I'm tired of the CDC shoving non-environmental vaccines down our childrens' throat.  We are suppose to be the richest country in the world yet the wealth is not shared,,,not everyone is given the opportunity to acheive the American dream.  I'm also tired of our media "brainwashing" us and having its citizens focus more on celebrities than what is going on not only in our backyard but around the world.   I'm going to stop because i'm getting pissed.  lol sorry
