I really want to go college in a city around NYC, but i don't want to be in NYC I just want to be able to get there when i want to be in the big city and be able to go home to a peaceful place outside the big city so which is faster to new york city by train? Newark, NJ or White Plains, NY... and which is the safer of the 2 cities?

  1. You might want to consider Seton Hall (South Orange) or Rutgers (New Brunswick) in New Jersey.  Both are in great places to live and both have train stations that will put  you in the city pretty easily.  Both cities are much better than either Newark or White Plains.

  2. Why dont you go to Queens college.  Its in Queens, NY (Flushing area).  Its not in Manhattan but you are a bus an train away.  You can rent an apartment in Fresh meadows or Rego Park or flushing.  You can also go to school in Long Island.  Look into SUNY schools.  They are cheap and not to far from the city.  Good Luck.

  3. NYC is way more "peaceful" and safer than Newark, NJ.

White Plains is more of a suburban town than city. Downtown White Plains is dead after 5PM.

You really should pick a college that gives you the best opportunity to study what you want, not based on how close it is to NYC.

  4. Newark is closer, but it's a notorious hole.

White Plains is nicer, safer, etc, and it's still not a long train ride.
