What's considered a good time for a 5K run? Today I ran 5 miles in 30 minutes, is that a good time for 5 mile?

  1. well for one thing a 5k is not the same as 5 miles. 5 miles in 30 minutes is very good, it puts you at about a 6 minute mile. but a 5k is shorter than 5 miles. 5 kilometers is about 3 miles, so you are at a 10 minute mile. a pretty good 5k time is under 20 minutes if you are a serious runner. if you aren't, just try to get your time close to 20 minutes.


  2. 30 minutes isn't a bad time for 5 miles. It's not gonna win Olympic gold or anything, but it shows some ability.

    If you can run 5 miles in 30 minutes, I'd say you should be looking at a 5k time in the low 17's . Maybe 17:15 or so. Sub-17 should be achievable if you start focusing on the shorter distance. Certainly you should be able to go under 18 minutes.
