i read somewhere here that you can't enter med school with a 3.30 GPA? (in the states). In my country, 3.30's pretty high, almost a *** laude status. our highest 4.0 gpa. how's it like in the states? i'm considering taking my mba there, what's the usual GPA requirement of good graduate schools?

  1. Top tier medical schools in the US are very competitive and often reject students with almost perfect academic records. You need to take the MCAT and English language exam, if you are not a native speaker of English or did not study at an English language university as a undergraduate. Also, you may need to have your transcript translated professionally since American Medical school have very specific prerequisites. For more information, the Association of American Medical College provides a guide to the admission's requirements for US Medical schools. The url is http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/ms... My guess, medical school entrance policy is not my specialty, that a 3.3 will get you into a medical school, but don't expect to get into a institution like Harvard or UCLA. To give you an example of how competitive top schools can be, I will give you the stats on the 2011 class at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.  Out of 5275 applications, only 1194 applicants were interviewed. Another case is Harvard Medical School. According to their website, there were " 5,482 applicants applied for a spot in the August 2007 entering class. Annually, Harvard Medical School interviews between 800-900 applicants for a class of 165."

  2. highes gpa in the states is 4.0 (for most schools),  most good schools will be looking for around a 3.5 gpa, however many also rely heavily on standardized tests, like the MCATs for med school, or LSATs for law.  There is one for other grad schools, but i cant remember what it is at this time. Sorry.
