  1. I have a YTR-135. I recently contacted Yamaha to learn more about it. According to the rep who replied to my email, the YTR-135 was only made between 1975 and 1978. Mine has either a silver or nickel finish. One thing I found interesting about mine is that the 1st valve slide and the 3d valve slide are interchangable. They are identical.

  2. I have on of each (Yamaha 232 and 135 model trumpets).  As a three-numbered serial number yamaha, it's an odler one.  The later ones have 3 digits in the serial #.  They are both lighter horns by student standards, and are not as durable IF the student is careless.  That said, they both play very well.  In my opinion the 135 is most like an old student model Conn Director (the smaller bore model with 5 starts engraved on the bell).

The 135 (and director) take less air volume to play, but are sometimes easier to play in the high register, all things being equal to a larger bore twin, such as comparing the 232 to the 135.

The yamaha 135 is sometimes seen in nickle plate (cool).  232 does not have a pitch -adjustable 3rd valve side (OK for a begginer) and has "budget" valve caps made of plastic.  That may be OK, since a youngster can't stip the brass threads on the horn.  Instead, the soft caps would give way and nee dto be replaced (much cheaper).  Don't know if such caps can be found, though. The caps could be a serious problem if you cant get replacements, as I think they WILL strip eventually.

The 135 is a quality horn and is as well built as the 232.

Take care if used, as Yamaha brass instuments are prone to red rot (look it up).
