Question:

What's going on in Tibet?

Could someone please fill me in on the whole "Tibet" situation over in China? It's not that I've been under a rock for several months, it's just that I'm not a very political person and when it comes to things like this I don't understand what the problem is. I'd really like to understand what is causing this huge commotion. So if possible, I'd very much appreciate it if someone could map it out for me and give me their own opinion on this matter?

Thanks.

  1. Please don't turn to a biased community to find out the truth. Asking for personal opinions on this matter is the last thing you want to do. Turn to historians and scholars who only present you with facts that you can then use to make your own opinions. Ideally, I would say to go to the public library to check out history books. However, I'm assuming you're looking for a quick answer, so I'll refer you to the following.

History from someone with a Yale PhD in Political Science (highly recommended to explain the background and current situation): http://www.michaelparenti.org/Tibet.html

Article from UCLA (good for examining the truth behind all the accusations, both sides included): http://www.international.ucla.edu/articl...

  3. people want to live better but they forgot such virtue as patience

some of them are politically shortsighted

and pay no attention to a saying:

    "the strength is in unity"

    :)

  4. hi,

    as for me,

The Tibet issue is entirely an internal issue of China which concerns the country's sovereignty.

This issue is not an ethnic issue, not a religious issue, nor a human rights issue, but an issue either to safeguard national unification or to split the China.

  5. ok...

tibet HAS been a part of china for a very long time.. but since it is the home of dalai lama, before, they usually left it alone. BUT when mao came in power it was a whole different story, the cultural revolution was literally took chinese culture and took away everything. including religion.

but now... tibet is ok. but they think that they should have their own separate country. the thing i think americans dont' know is that...

    1. the dalai lama hasn't been in tibet for over 30 years, yes he was exiled but his disciples aren't exactly listening to him. he doesn't want violence.

    2. tibet has many other minority groups in the countryside also the native people who has folk art, and the tibetians want them to leave.. NOT GOOD.

so in my mind, it's like this..

    tibet:china :: texas: USA

  6. If White American says China out of Tibet!

White peoples must be out of American and return to Europe first!

  7. I will try and give a shorten verison of it....

Chinas claim that Tibet is part of there lands is down to then in ca 1245 when the Mongol made Tibet and China part of the Empire of the great Khan. Come ca 1356ish the Mings defeated the Yuan dynasty (part of Empire of the great Khan) and claimed there lands as Chinese. As Tibet was part of of the great Empire of the Khan they claimed this lands as part of Chinese soil. Now here where it gets confusing. The Chinese claim that through deals and such that Tibet was to be part of Chinese soil but it would let the Tibetan leaders rule over Tibet. The Tibetans (the ones wanting freedom) on the other hand claim that this is not true and that it was more of an alliance or peace deal.

However what is fact that in 1951 the PLA army marched into Tibet and forced the Tibetan leaders to sign the 17 point agreement and plus handing over Tibetan lands to China. The Tibetan on the over hand are not happy about this.

However his is not the full story and it would take far to long to type and research, the only thing you can do is go and research Tibetan/Chinese history from ca 1245.
