He's been irritable all evening acting like he wants to feed and he'll have a go when I breast feed him then give up/ sleep/ comfort suck, he still actively feeds for at least 15 mins so has actually had more feeds than he usually would now.

He's now wolfing down the 1.5 oz I managed to express as if he is starving (he's never fed from a bottle before tonight)

What is he doing?

Why isn't he feeding properly when I breast feed him, he's latched on properly so what's going on?

  1. My little girl is 4wks and doing the same thing....try feeding him

longer and switching b*****s, he could get frustrated that your milk

isn't coming out as fast as it was when he 1st latched on.

  2. I believe it's known as "cluster feeding" usually comes with growth spurts. Nothing to be concerned about hun.

  3. Yeah I agree it is probably a growth spurt.  That will make him tend to eat more and sleep a little more then usual.  It also makes them a little irritable.  I would just feed him when he's hungry and let him sleep when he's tired.  He will be better soon.  My daughter had major growth spurts at four, eight and sixteen weeks.

  4. he's in the middle of a growth spurt, keep feeding him and you'll be fine in a few days.
