What's going on with the horse breeding and the horses getting severly injured in Kentucky Derby?

Is this irresponsible breeding just for a pure bred that can dominate? Is it really worth it after the sad affair yesterday??

  1. These horses are being killed out of greed. People just want to make a free buck. They don't care that these horses are neglected and worked over and over until they die. The death of these horse in the Kentucky Derby just confirms it.

  2. Horses are horses. That is how their bodies are built and I think people should respect it. After today, what I have seen, I am against horse racing. I think others should be too. I am in love with riding, but riding does not hurt the horse...as far as the intense races ive seen, racing kills.

  3. as with any athlete we all take chances of injury in sports. There is much done to ensure the safety of these valuable animals. Sometimes there is a injury and it is treated immediately.....sometimes humanely putting them down is the only answer.

  4. It is not breeding.

There is no fault, it happens to horses in ALL horse sports, not just racing.

Thoroughbreds generally have delicate bone structure, It is what makes them so fast, one mis-step, whether it be galloping around a racetrack, cantering across a field or going over jumps can break a bone.

As for people who say that horse racing is all about the "money", do you even know what a race horse costs?  Let alone training costs, care costs and feed costs?  Most race horse owners don't even break even!
