Question:

What's going to happen about this whole Russia/Georgia thing?

Obviously, Georgia doesn't want to get on Russia's bad side, but if Russia were to declare open-war on Georgia, how would Georgia stand up for itself? Would America/Europe intervene and help Georgia? And would Russia get its ally (China) involved?

What do you think on the situtation?

  1. sounds like a UN problem to me.

  2. We should start minding our own business.

  3. Georgia was the first to attack South Ossetia against the previous agreements.

Abkhazia and South Ossetia will break out from Georgia now.  With the attack it's lost the last chances to take that republics back. Ossetians and Abkhazians really hate them now. And after Kosovo independense....

Russian forces will stay in Ossetia. They  still have peacekeepers mandate and are strongly supported by the locals.

It's not likely that Europe/ the USA or China will be directly involved.

  4. We are doomed!

  5. i dont even want to think about it all , i think there is enough fighting the world. PEACE

  6. The west should not get pulled into it, Georgia is only trying to piggy back itself into the west's military protection. It is a liability. Not an asset.

Russia has more than 20,000 Nuclear weapons stocked. They can destroy this entire earth million times.

You want to risk that because of an insignificant Georgia ?

  7. Maybe, if there lucky, Georgia may be able to fend Russia off like Afghanistan did.

  8. People who think the UN can or will do anything have their heads in the sand. The UN can/will do nothing, it is a corrupt Socialist organization whose purpose is to make the US pay for everyone of their corrupt schemes to make themselves rich. Name something positive the UN has done in the past decade?

  9. Seroiusly ~ Iran and Russia have been in cahoots for a few years now. This has been brewing for a few years. This small stuff could turn into something larger making the US look like we started it all.

  10. Russia is f*cking itself.  Taking Georgia will give them complete control over all fuel pipelines into Europe and make them seem aggressive and dangerous.  This will make the Europeans get very serious about weening themselves off fossil fuels and when that technology gets cheap and effective Russia's oil and gas resources will be worthless.  Then Russia will be as poor as it was in the Soviet days.

  11. well, there is no way Georgia can fight Russia, they are too weak. The Question is what will the UN do? will the UN intervene? we don't know what the UN would do.

and no, Russia will not call on China (they don't need their help anyways)

  12. Saakashvili gambled, and is in the process of losing.

Russia will annex the territories it has been eyeing thanks to this gamble.  The Georgian attempt at reigning in those pro-Russian provinces by force gave Russia the casus belli it was waiting for.  Terrible move on their part.

Georgia is still hoping that the US and NATO will come to its aid but this aid will not happen.  NATO is not going to wage war against Russia over South Ossetia and the US is barely managing two current wars.

This is yet another example of the west promising and propping up smaller countries outside its zone of influence for their own profit without any ability to guarantee the commitments they make when confronted with the main power in the local area.

By the way Georgia has been anti-Russian in its behavior for a while.  It has tried to enter NATO, embraced US troops, and done everything opposite of what Russia wanted, so it is safe to say they dont want to have Russia on its bad side but did everything to make it so.

This was bound to happen...Saakashvili though really miscalculated here.
