  2. A Wonderful Future for Planet Earth - “Research shows Earth is now the warmest it has been in 600 years,” reports the Toronto “Globe and Mail”. In 1995 a heat wave in the central United States claimed the lives of more than 500 people in Chicago. Similar extreme conditions befell India and Australia, while England experienced “the third driest summer in 200 years.”

What is the cause of this? Henry Hengeveld, a climate expert with the federal Environment Department in Canada, says: “The balance of evidence suggests there is a discernible human influence on the global climate.” According to the “Globe and Mail” report, “the strange weather is consistent with computer models simulating the effects of global warming, thought to be caused mainly by the burning of fossil fuels.”

The existence of global warming is still debated in scientific circles. Nevertheless, “The New Encyclopædia Britannica” observes: “Humankind is abusing the atmospheric environment faster than it is understanding it.”

Happily, the Bible tells us that the earth is “standing even to time indefinite.” (Ecclesiastes 1:4) This is because the Creator, Jehovah God, will not allow man or any natural forces to destroy it. On the contrary, he will “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”—Revelation 11:17, 18.

Additionally, the Bible assures us that Jehovah God has a wonderful future in store for our planet, Earth, and for all obedient mankind. “The meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.” How happy we can be that earth’s future is in God’s hands, not man’s!—Psalm 37:11; 72:16; Isaiah 65:17-25; 2 Peter 3:13.

But then what would be like the earth in the future? Would it be like what we all see today? Not at all. The Word of God clearly spells out the Creator’s purpose to perform a complete overhaul of human society by means of a new government in the hands of Jesus Christ. In the Bible that heavenly government is called the Kingdom of God.—Matthew 6:9, 10.

Regarding that Kingdom the inspired prophecy of Daniel 2:44 declares: “In the days of those kings [existing today] the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these [present-day] kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite.”

Under the inspiration of God’s powerful active force, the apostle Peter also wrote concerning future life on earth under God’s Kingdom. He said: “There are new heavens [God’s heavenly Kingdom] and a new earth [a new human society under that Kingdom] that we are awaiting according to [God’s] promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell.”—2 Peter 3:13.

What will life be like for those who are privileged to live on earth under the rule of God’s heavenly Kingdom? The Creator’s promise is: “‘[God] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.’ And the One seated on the throne said: ‘Look! I am making all things new.’ Also, he says: ‘Write, because these words are faithful and true.’”—Revelation 21:4, 5.

The kind of future that the Creator promises is a marvelous one and true Christians put faith in God’s sure promises for the future. Indeed, they do more. They stake their life on them.

Why can they do so with such confidence? Because they know from God’s Word that this “hope does not lead to disappointment,” since ‘God cannot lie.’ In fact, “it is impossible for God to lie.” (Romans 5:5; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18) As Joshua, a servant of God, stated long ago: “Not one word out of all the good words that Jehovah your God has spoken to you has failed. They have all come true for you. Not one word of them has failed.”—Joshua 23:14.

  3. The temperature of the Earth is increasing, and I presume the Earth would 'explode'!Water level is rising too and it would bring disaster! What are we waiting for?Tell everyone to save the Earth hurriedly!

  4. In 50 years global warming has been finally recognized as a scam, and we can all get on with our lives.

  5. The future is not really knowable, but in recorded history, humankind has always progressed through the application of our intelligence and what we discover about nature.  However, nature is bigger than we are, and we are wasteful.  I believe our best hope lies in education, through which we could make the best choices (but might not).

One thing, though.  If ultimately humans do not survive the next round of global warming, whatever the cause, I can accept that as natural.  I would like to see us behave responsibly, because I believe we have the capacity to do so, but I accept reality, which includes the possibility that we may not be able to stop changes that we have precipitated.

    So be it.

  6. The Democrats will not let anything get done that will help. They hope it will get bad enough that we will elect them to power so they can Tax us more.
