I totally spaced Jury duty. What happened was, I work nights, have worked the last 9 days strait and just forgot and fell asleep. I called the Commissioner as soon as I woke up to explain what happened but was too late, she had already left for the day. What's going to happen now? I have left a voice mail with the Jury Commissioner and am awaiting a return call.

  1. the only thing that got me out of jury duty (my first and only) was orders to join my husband stationed here. You had better hope you have some serious medical note or something....ouch. Or hope that you just have to pay a fine.

  2. In reality, a huge portion of people don't show up for jury duty.  True, a bench warrant court be issued, etc., etc.  But, if you are proactive, you are most likely just fine.

I recommend writing a short letter to the clerk of the court stating that you forgot jury duty, that you are sorry, and to please reschedule you.  I think you'd be surpised how well courts work with people who show they are proactive and not reactive.

In short, don't worry.  Contact the court soon and ask to be resceduled.

    Best wishes.

  3. You'll have a bench warrant issued & you'll have to appear before a judge to explain why you were FTA. Ya probably will get fined.
