I totally spaced Jury duty. What happened was, I work nights, have worked the last 9 days strait and just forgot and fell asleep. I called the Commissioner as soon as I woke up to explain what happened but was too late, she had already left for the day. What's going to happen now? I have left a voice mail with the Jury Commissioner and am awaiting a return call.

  1. Probably nothing. Maybe a reschedule.

  2. You will probably get an order to appear in court and show cause why you should not be held in contempt.  The judge will give a lecture about your civic duty and you will be put back on the list for jury duty.  It is theoretically punishable by contempt, but judges have enough problems without angering innocent citizens who made an honest mistake.

  3. Who knows. Maybe nothing if she accepts your excuse. If not, maybe a fine, a few days in jail.

Or, she just may reassign you to another time frame.
