  1. Short answer: nobody really knows.

Long answer: It may be that one day people will just download whatever they want and not bother with purchasing things in physical format. They punch in their credit card number, and buy the movie online, it downloads, and ta-da, you have your new film. Possibly. That's just one idea.

Snarky answer: I really hope NOTHING does. I don't want to have to go out and buy all my movies AGAIN. =)

  2. Blue Ray

  3. MP4's or another file format that you can download directly to your movie players hard drive.

You can download (buy) and play Blu-ray movies onto your PS3 via the playstation network.

  4. Definitely something more durable, and containing more data than a DVD that's for sure - in the future.

  5. crystallite memory if we get that far, or memory stored in crystal and manipulated by laser to display the data written in them

  6. If I knew, I would invent it so I could become really rich.

  7. theyre gonna invent something you havent heard of....no one knows whats gonna replace dvdz cuz if they did then chances are we would already be using them.....duh lmao

  8. Sony won and Blue Ray is the way of the future.  Your best bet would be to get a Sony Playstation 3.  Biggest bang for your buck, video games and it plays Blue Ray disks.

  9. maybe just a laser light that can make a slight everywhere.

  10. Plans are to go to digital distribution. Meaning downloads and streaming.

  11. Digital, thats where we're heading now.

But, if it is the disk it would be like violet light,(which is kind of like blu ray, except even shorter of a wavelength) or even ultraviolet.

  12. computers

  13. Blue-ray disks, duh. Clearer picture and more compact!

  14. They re going to replace movies with little space ships that fly out of the box when u open them and land in the dvd player!!!

  15. Digital media, internet connections are becoming faster and soon all media will be instant access

  16. right now nothing is set to replace Blue-ray

remember Blue-ray is a format a HD format

As far as the future of HD movies it looks like most are betting rather then disks movies will be downloaded...

I should add as an FYI the old cd disks are starting to be phased out... and just in the last few months I've seen music being sold on memory sticks

  17. Eventually all media will be processed over a fiber optic network that links everything to a main database.  This way the need for any hardware and moving parts is eliminated.  This is a far way off  but is the way things will ultimately end up.  We will all be connected by a hyper fast internet and all media will stream from that.

  18. The VHS is coming back strong...

  19. They're just going to play DVDs on Mars.
