What's gonna happen to all those people who say they dont have to pay taxes?

i.e., the ones who say income tax is a voluntary contribution and such

And what's the name of the group (and original person) who started this way of thinking?

  1. They're called tax protesters, and they will be in deep trouble when the IRS catches up with them.  Their arguments have never held up in court.  For further reading, see Wikipedia:

  2. The Internal Revenue Service will "convince" them that their belief is incorrect!

  3. What I was told was that it is a voluntary tax, until you sign up for a social security number.  Once you do that, you are tacitly agreeing to pay it.  You are bound by that agreement for the rest of your life.

It used to be that you signed up for social security in order to get a job, now we have to do it within days of the birth of our children, on their behalf.

That being the case, we are agreeing to pay taxes for the rest of our children's lives too.

By giving birth in this country, or conversely by being born, we are tacitly agreeing to pay a "voluntary "tax for the rest of our lives.

The IRS will get you, count on it.

    Vote for Ron Paul

  4. I personally know one who was sentenced to jail this summer.

So far NO ONE has succeeded in defending this issue in court. If you want to consider income tax to be voluntary, that's your right, but keep in mind there is no precedent for a successful defense and others before you are doing time.

  5. I don't know, but I get all my tax refund back for State plus some extra for earned income credit with Federal Taxes.

  6. It IS a voluntary system, I worked for IRS for years and there is absolutly NO LAW which requires individuals to pay. they only require busineses to pay. And we could run our country without personal income taxes too.  There are profesional lawyers who make a life's living researching The Law and no one has ever come across any law.

    Can you?

  7. They are assigned a frivolous return penalty or an estimate is made and they are sent a bill for the amount plus tax and penalty.  If they don't pay the bill, then eventually liens are placed on their houses and cars, their bank accounts levied and wages garnished.  Once we seized ones car while he was in the IRS parking lot.

Occasionally they are charged with evasion, but usually they are not evaders (they are not trying to conceal their tax liability , some of them are stupid enough to believe they are right. - see Cheek v. US).  The IRS' policy is to waste as little time on them as possible.

There is a long history of disagreement with non-proportional direct taxation.  You will find that even the ancient Greeks did not like it.  King Charles I was executed over it (1643) and it was prohibited by our Constitution until amended in 1913.

The Supreme Court has held recent disagreements over its constitutionality are frivolous.

  8. Original person was probably Thomas Jefferson in the United States.

What will happen to them is nothing unless they actually refuse to pay.  In that case they will be hunted down and imprisoned even if it takes the complete resources of the federal government to do it.  Of all the crimes you can commit in this country, tax evasion is probably the most serious and the one most certain to cause a quick and nasty response from the government.

Our governments opinion on tax evaders is too nip it in the bud with maximum force.
