Some people love them and some people hate them, well why is this??? What are the great things about then and what are the things you want to avoid at all costs? what's interesting and boring? New content or the whole concept in genera??

Discuss... I know there's a lot of debate on them (and what about children and adults using them??? what do you think about that)

- cheers

  1. You don't know what you are going to get on a social network site.  Sometimes you get in and can find stimulating conversation which keeps your captivated for an hour or so... and sometimes you get the drivel of the masses who cannot really put words together properly so they have to curse and act all high and mighty.

Then there are cliques just like in the real world.  Those people who have met in person and then stay within their own little group of people and forget that there are others there who wish to converse with them and maybe make friends and meet as well.

THEN there are the liars, like those who describe themselves one way and turn out to be nothing like that which they are making others believe they are....

Children should really stay off of many social network sites because predators can pretend to be anything they wish to be.  Teenagers should be educated (like a whole class) in school about what can happen, and have them actually experience the bad stuff (in controlled atmosphere of course) so they have full understanding of what can happen..

News reporters have found teenagers through MySpace and Facebook without much trouble, and introduced themselves to the kids.  It was an awakening for the teens, who thought their identities were cyber-based only.

  2. I don't think that they are bad, but they are vulnerable to people with bad intentions. They allow anonymous usage which can lead to lying about age. Just recently a 13 yr old girl lied and said she was 19, ended up having consentual s*x with an adult, and he ended up doing jail time. And then there are the sexual predators who intentionally look for impressionable teens.

As well, parents aren't doing a good job of monitoring what their children are doing on these social network sites. Girls with cameras seem to be a not so good combination. Unfortunately a lot of these teens don't realize that if the ever end up in the public light these pictures will probably resurface now that it's so easy to save thousands of pictures on a hard drive.

So I wouldn't say they need to be banned or adults only, but parents need to be more involved in what's going on. I'd say most parent's need to pull their heads out of their ***es and stop lying to themselves about how good and innocent their kid is and do some monitoring of what's going on. That and maybe there should be some kind of true IDing system so Mr Creep can't lurk around looking for a victim.

  3. Most of the sites are good, the kids need to be careful with what  personal info they put on their profile.
