Question:

What's good to do in Montreal?

I'm heading for Montreal for vacation, and I'd like to know what kinds of things are "can't-miss" there. I like clubs, shows, museums and events. I also like beautiful scenery, and getting a feel for the locals. Where do the locals like to play? Is it a big deal that I don't speak French?

  1. first, where are you staying, get address? then google areas of interest. the fun part of Montral is that it will keep you busy from historical, museums, and nightlife.

my thing is getting to know the locals and learning about there town. if your socialable, you will have a good time.

  2. i have been all over the world and montreal is one of the best there is. the best food, clubs hotels email me if you need some help. i have spent a lot of time and $$ in that city.

  3. The Biodome is pretty neat, sort of a zoo sectioned off into different climates. Crescent street is pretty good for food places, Ste Catherine Street for shopping. Old Montreal is great for scenery, you can get a horse drawn carriage ride.

  4. Go to the Strip Clubs, totally awesome. Try to speak some french, if only limited. They like to at least see the effort.

  5. There are also a lot of clubs in the downtown area, as well as a vast underground city network that connects various malls.

There's the Musee des Beaux Arts.

Like someone else said, the Old Port. Lots of little shops, restaurants, horse-drawn carriages.

You can check out McGill University (it's a pretty cool campus).

You don't really need French. The people who work at restaurants, stores, museums, etc. are usually bilingual. And if you are downtown, even if you ask for directions from people walking down the street, they are often multilingual, so there is a good chance that they speak english (as well as french, and probably the language of their country). Montreal is very cosmopolitan!

    Have fun!

  6. You can go to the Biodome, or Planetarium. I think the Botanic Garden will be closed. You could also go see the Olympic stadium. Then there is the Science museum in Old port, where you can also walk along cobbled streets and enjoy food at various restaurants and cafes and walk along the riverfront. Horse driven carriages are also seen in Old Port, you could go on a ride. And don't forget Beavertails covered in chocolate, mmmm, available at Queues de Castor in Old Port or at the Guzzo Cinema. NOTE: it is a pastry similar to a donut so don't worry it's not a real beaver tail, just shaped like it!

You can go shopping at the Eaton Centre, or Angrignon Mall, or Carrefour Laval (the best mall!).

Try the local poutine (fries, cheese and gravy yummy!) and Julep juice at the big orange on Decarie highway called JULEP - near Metro Namur.

You could go for a picnic at the Beaver Lake and get a view of Montreal from Mount Royal, beautiful on a clear day and romantic at night.

There are sevral cathedrals/churches to see also.

You can get by without French. Don't be surprised if you ask in English and people reply in French. In my experience most people are bilingual so there shouldn't be a problem.

  7. watching the snowfall

  8. if your in montreal then your the only "good" thing to do here. LOL just kidding... mtl is known as the horniest city in North America. We have more clubs and more students (per capita) than any other city in North America.

  9. I think Sugar sweet cover it all but one I can remember was especially fun in the winter is Beaver Lake close to Mount Royale. When it snows they have sledding and tubing, ice skating too. It is beautiful there. Just across the street is the mounted police and sometimes the horses are there, If they let you, you can pet them . The scenery around that area is breathtaking!!  Have fun which I am sure you will. That city is a blast!!!

  10. I love Old Montreal, because the architecture is very nice.  You can get a horse and carriage ride through the streets of old Montreal.  The waterfront is also pretty and there is a look out tower that you can go up (by foot - many stairs!) to have a better view.  Not speaking French is not a big deal, because you'll find that most people speak both French and English.
