Ok it may seem like im just venting here at first but there is a question to this whole thing...if that makes any sense....but it seems to me that every pro mma fighter is judged upon tattoos, what brand they wear on their trunks and the place their fighting from. It feels like the UFC,the fans of UFC are selling out...i mean everybody with a TapouT or affliction shirt thinks they are a badass that knows everything about MMA when the truth is their just douchebags. So here is my question....Why is dana and all the fans ruining such a good thing?

  1. simple...money changes everything.  when they started there was no popularity, so all there was was integrity.  now that they're making millions, they're cashing in on merchandising. i'd do the same.  one thing i would like to point out is the fighters are much better than they were ten years ago.  they must be doing something right.

  2. MMA is a sport, not a martial art in itself. It takes the most utilitarian aspects of the true martial arts and combines it into a highly technical bloodsport.

As with all bloodsports, once money enters the equation its just a matter of time before marketing hype and product placement get more attention to the fighters. Very little emphasis is put onto the hard work of the athletes or their motivations.

Have no fear, the moment someone dies in the ring MMA will be banned forever and we won't have to deal with it anymore.

  3. i agree with that one guy...mma is a sport and not a style itself. i love mma and it to me is the best sport around cause you guys who have studied different styles and have them fight. all those brands like tapout, affliction, throwdown, are just the merch that goes along with it like nike for basketball and new era for baseball and so forth. dana is just capatilizing on it to make money, you would to if you were in his shoes. if your a fan of the sport, be a fan of the sport. don't get caught up like those sheep with their ******* tapout t-shirts.

  4. I think MMA sucks in general.

  5. I have been teaching traditional Okinawan and Filipino styles for 22 years and know many other instructors doing the same thing for even longer. We all have this to say about MMA. Who cares? MMA is ruining itself. Have you ever imagined being attacked, by A) someone your own size. B) someone smaller  C) Someone larger D) only one person at a time. The most likely to happen is C and D. So what does MMA, as dipicted on TV, have to do with any imaginable reality? I teach all my adults to go for the kill,  and hope they hurt the attacker badly enough that they can get away. MMA started out as a little more real, but now it is ONLY a sport. If you find it amusing, well and good. But don't take it seriously. I know there are some good MMA people out there. There are in everything. But real self-defense and sports are like Venus and Mars. Know why you don't see traditionalists fight to the fullest on TV? Because one of them would probably not make it out in one piece. And you are right about most of the guys fighting on TV. I wouldn't let one of them near my daughter.

  6. i would have to disagree with mma being a sport. of course, what you watch on tv like ufc, wec, pride, etc. are sports. but mma in itself is training in standup fighting, groundfighting, and everything in between. only when you get in a ring and throw the rules in is it a sport.

as to the question asked, dana white does not own affliction, so you can't blame him for all the affliction shirts. also, lots of people who like basketball wear basketball shirts. lots of people who like football, soccer, or wrestling wear wrestling shirts, and air jordans, even the ones who do not actively participate in these sports. is it wrong for them to wear them? of course not. they enjoy the sports and express this by wearing clothes representing them. therefore, i think it is only normal that people who watch the mma sports wear clothes representing them

  7. look some people (like myself saw the show TUF) and where like hmm, thats cool, so i took myself down to a dojo i liked and signed up for some classes, and now i am taking Muay Thai, Brazilian JJ, and Traditional JJ, 5-6 times a week, do i sometimes think i am tuff and a badass, h**l yeah.....until i realize that a16 year old female Kung Fu purple belt weighting 100 pounds less then me could kick my *** up and down the street without much effort , its humbling, i got humble and i am not afraid to admit it, some people learn the good things that mma represents, hard work , dedication, and respecting ur art and other people, while douchebags( like u labeled them) just care for the shiny fight shorts and getting hot girls at the after party

its all about the money as long a people like seing douchebags on TV Dana White is gona be a wealthy man, i wouldn't hate to much on him bc he gives alot of people what they want to see
