  1. the fish die from suffocation, which takes quite some time to do.  all fish are contaminated with any/all chemicals that were thrown into the body of water in which they live.  if someone in the area dumped gasoline, motor oil, old paint, cocaine, plastic residues from garbage etc...  its all in the fish.

  2. We don't get fish at the grocery store because we don't eat fish.  How do they kill fish?  Fish die when out of the water.

  3. Fish is in fish. What contaminants are present depends on the type of fish, its age, where it lived, where it was caught, etc.

Fish that get clubbed or decapitated are the lucky ones. Most of them are caught in nets and left to suffocate. It would take way too much time to cut off the heads of all of the fish in one haul. Some of them probably die before they reach the surface because of decompression or being suffocated from not having enough space to breathe in the net. But I think most of them probably suffocate.
