  1. metric ton is equal to 1000 kilograms

    (1t = 1000kg)

there's nothing in between, there is gram, kilo-gram, mega-gram which is a 1000 kilograms which equals a 1 ton

  2. You asked what's in between.  A "short ton," which is 2000 pounds and used mostly in the United States, is less than a metric ton.  A metric ton is 2205 pounds.
