Question:

What's included in the wii game system?

I finally got a wii for my son for Christmas. I ordered it and it was delivered yesterday. The picture on the box shows what looks like the main system (much smaller then his Xbox360) and a remote. I'm use to seeing him with a controller. Do these systems normally not come with one? It also includes a game called wii sports. Does that game need the remote?

My son will be 16 at Christmas. He plays alot of first-person-shooter games. He'll be getting Soul Calibur IV and Fable II for his Xbox. What games do you recommend for him for wii? Also, what do you think about the Fitness platform and game (mainly for me. LOL).

Sorry for so many questions. Clueless mom trying to figure all this out! Thanks.

  1. Go and get him Wii Play-it has 10 games on it.  If you can find it get him Mario Kart.  Now the "system" comes with enough controlers for 1 person.  If  he wants friends to play with him ie: with the sports you will need to purchase another remote (which will come with the WII play game-really worth it) and another numchuck -go to wal-mart they will know what you want.  B/C of his age I would wait until he gets the WII to purchase anymore games than the above. The Mario Kart is really hard to find so when you find it buy it, it is around $50.00- and it comes with the stearing wheel-so much fun.  Have fun and try to let him play with it too.

  2. In the box, you should receive:

    - The wii

    - 1 wii remote

    - 1 nun chuck

    - Wii sports game disc

    - Sensor bar, power cable and audio and video cable.

    - 1 wii stand to put your wii on.

    - 1 wii jacket

The remote is the main controller for the game and the nunchuck is the attachable control stick used for certain games.

Wii sports is a multiplayer/single player game. Some games can be played with multiple people and 1 remote (like bowling) and others need 1 remote per person (like tennis) but to have 2 people able to play at the same time, you will need to buy another wii remote. If you want to play games like 2 player boxing, you will also need to buy another nunchuck.

Wii sports is a partial multiplayer game. You can play multiplayer on all the games but soe of them can be played multiplayer with only 1 remote.

Bowling - 1-4 players. Up to 4 people can play with one remote

Boxing - 1-2 players. You need 1 remote and one nunchuck for each person.

    Tennis - 1- 4 players - each player needs 1 remote.

Baseball - 1- 2 players. Each Player needs 1 remote.

Golf - 1-4 players. You can play with 4 players on one remote.

As for the wii fit you mentioned, I think it would be great for a mom. I am trying to encourage my mother to get one because I really think she would love it. I know that it is not for me and I am 16 too so your son probably would feel the same way I feel about it. Which is less than enthusiastic.

Some good games for the wii are  Super Mario Galaxy (1 player), Zelda Twilight Princess (1 player), and Mario Kart wii (1-4 players) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (1-4 players). I think your son would enjoy these games because they are the bestsellers.

So that is what you get with your standard wii package that you get in a retail store.

    Have fun and good luck.

  3. The remote that comes with the wii *IS* the controller.  It's used for just about every game.  It also comes with a "nunchuck", which is an attachment that attaches to the bottom of the remote, held in the left hand and gives a small joystick and two extra buttons.

Both the remote and nunchuk are motion detecting.  So part of the controlls (depending on the games) involves moving them in certain ways.

I'm not a first person shooter person myself, but I did enjoy playing through Metriod: Corruption.

Wii Sports that comes with the Wii does use the remote for all games.  For Boxing, it requires the use of the nunchuck.

I have Wii Fit too, and enjoy it.  You will likely enjoy it too.

    Other games that I'd recommend:

Wario Ware (not that it's because it's a good game, it's not.  But is fun to play through once and is a good example of things that the remote can do).

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

    Super Mario Galaxy

If he likes fighting games, Super Smash Brothers Brawl

  4. I don't think you had to throw in clueless mom cuz I figured that out when you said, "it's much smaller thehn his Xbox360". LOL, sorry, but I had to say that.

Any way, The Wii comes with the Wii-Mote and a Nunchuck.

Yes, Wii Sports needs the remote. ALL games on the Wii need a controller, if it's not the Remote it's something like a Classic Controller or something else.

    Get him:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Best fighting game EVER!!!!)

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Great shooter but more like a first person adventure with first person shooter elements)

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Great adventure game)

    Super Mario Galaxy (Fantastic Platformer)

Mario Kart Wii (Great Racing game)

OK, it's not a "fitness platform", it's a Wii "Balance Board". It's called Wii Fit. It's a game that comes with the Balance Board that let's you do Yoga, Strength Excercises, Aerobics, and Balance Games.

    Hope this helps!
