So far I been in the Army for alittle over 2 years...and I haven't found a movie or show(in my eyes) that's even close to the real world of the military.

But in your OWN opinion...What Movie or show do you feel is as close to REAL as the real world of the military can get?

And I'm NOT talking about wars & battles...I'm talking about Military life.....Like how soldiers, seamen, airmen, marines act in the Military.

  1. hey the movie Jarhead is not too far off from the truth, not really the whole marine thing for me, but as far as how deployments can feel, and the comradeship between soldiers.  I have been in the Army for 5 years.

  2. check out this old school movie called "Cross of Iron"

might not be what your talking about, but its kida tite.

Its set in world war 2 dude, but its off the hook.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074695/

  3. i find it rather difficult to watch military movies or military themed shows with hubby as he too picks out the rank, the ribbons , etc.  there are some similarities and many more discrepancies. being a military wife of 15 years i have started to do the same, just not with as much technical knowledge.  unless you live the life you never know the REAL thing.  tv is tv and movies are movies anything is possible.

  4. If there was such a movie or show it wouldn't last long..military life is glamorized and the truth stretched a little to make it interesting.

I think the only movie that even came close to a real boot camp for the Marines was the  D.I. 1957.

Other than that , that's about all.

  5. I liked Steven Segal in Under Siege...not because it was "real"...rather because Segal played a Navy Chief...not an officer and the heroes were enlisted guys.

Almost all Navy movies portray the enlisted as half-witts or drunken slobs and show officers as the main hero.

In Under Seige the XO was the fat drunken slob. I just liked it for odd reasons. (No I don't hate officer types, but I don't see many Navy movies with enlisted heroes...in the films they are all O's)

So far I haven't seen any real or true to life military movies or TV shows. I can't stand JAG.

MASH was cool. It does sometimes show how people get bored and do some pranks...but we all know that it is a bit over the top at least it was usually funny.
