This was on tv last night. They use some kind of screen to put the image that is behind the subject (car etc) in front of the subject to make it (the car etc.) look like it disappears. I think Cris Angel did something like this too..and the government is using it.

  1. I think you're speaking of a camera that takes a video of whatever's behind you and projects it in front of you. I recently saw a jacket or a coat like that. It's either that or metamaterials that take light and makes it go around you. Right now, we can only do that with microwaves, not with visible light. As for the government, there are some military applications for something like this as you can imagine. Camoflage that will work anywhere.

  2. The goverment is using it for what?

  3. Alzheimers diesease.

  4. I think this was on either discovery or TLC (or maybe history channel) If you think conchise described it correctly.

I think this is what you saw:

It's still in its very infant stages. Basically they were able to create a device that could make itself and whatever was in its center "invisible" to a certain frequency of microwaves. Also, this is only in two dimensions so far (i.e. you have to be looking at exactly the correct viewpoint) and the extremely selective frequency is also prohibitive.

However, in the future this may be developed as a coating for air craft to shield them from detection of the enemies sensors for example.

In terms of making actual objects invisible to the naked eye, we are still VERY far from that, but this new technology shows progress.

  5. Teleporting.

  6. This is a classic illusion created by David Copperfield who made the statue of liberty dissappear. It only works on tv, anyone who is there can see how the trick is being done.

Penn and Teller demonstrated this illusion on tv. Here is how it is done.

The magician has a group of people in an audience, all of whom know the trick. The screen is put up and the entire set is rotated to a location that looks the same (except the subject is gone). Then the screen is removed and viola, the audience acts amazed.

This is what I like to call a mythical trick. It seems like a great trick, and we all hear about it being done, but its not a real trick, not even a real illusion, its a tv trick, a myth.

  7. An optical Illusion. Duh

  8. INVISIBLE!!!!

  9. When you do it to like a coin with your hands it's prestidigitation.

On TV they use a green or blue screen in a photo trick called chroma key.  See---

Any really good tech could mix anything with any other thing as long as the colors and lighting are good and about the same levels.

  10. This could be made also by technic on specific frequencies - someone influences you by technical device /speaker with microphone -as in Police, entering even in their diapasone to think smth had disappeared and indeed he had turned your attention/subluminal perception/ to smth other and nothing had really disappeared.
