What's it called when you take one word & think about it..to find a deeper meaning.?

I don't think it's meditation. I thought it was contemplation..but when I looked it up..it didn't seem like the same thing.

Contemplation seems like the right word to me. I think it's a form of meditation upon a single word or subject. A Buddhist might contemplate on something like Stillness. A Christian might contemplate on something like Forgiveness.
