At the moment I'm 17 and I cant wait for my 18th and 20th birthday.

I've been looking forward to turning both of these ages ever since I was 13.

I dont want to get married or anything - I just want to be free from some things. I've been waiting to move out and I'm really looking forward to it.

Is moving out and everything really as great as I think it is?

  1. Yes and no.

I love living on my own and having independence from my parents. Now that I don't live with them, we get along a lot better. I am free to live my life as I choose. I like the responsibility I now have.

At the same time, I have bills to pay. Last year I was a full time student and had two jobs. I could barely pay for everything. It was stressful and I probably would have enjoyed myself a lot more if I had lived in the dorms or with my parents. But I made the choice to have my own place and I am proud of myself for managing it.

I will tell you, though, that the last three years have been faster and faster. It can be overwhelming, but if independence and responsibility is really what you want then you will love it.

  2. All that is true, but what I miss most is summer vacation.  Oh sure I can schedule a vacation any time the boss will let me, but it's been a long time since I could look forward to that time off.

  3. It's different. You have to figure out a way to pay all your bills, buy and cook your own food, and clean up and take care of your house. Enjoy your life now...You may look forward to more freedom, but with that comes a lot more responsibility.
