  1. It can be exciting, boring, invigorating, and tedious.  We work long hours but are usually well compensated for it.  Most of us actually go to court seldom, if ever.  I've been to court only 7 times in the last 6 years.

We do lots of reading and writing.  I write around 15-20 pages each day between e-mails, letters, and legal opinions.  A common joke among attorneys is that we should have become authors because we would write less.

It is exhilarating to win big for your client, even if it is not in court.  It's disheartening to lose.

  2. It's a lot like answering these questions.  We answer questions all day and give advice.  We are right almost all the time due to our education and experience.  It's a good feeling to be able to help people and to be respected and appreciated.  The people who call lawyers bad names are those who are just parroting what they've heard and they don't understand what they are doing.  Without lawyers bad guys would walk all over good guys.  Our system of justice depends on American lawyers and we do one h**l of a job.  You would like being a lawyer if you like to argue your side and if you like to help people.  Interesting question.

  3. It's awesome.  I represent the "citizen accused," meaning that I help people through the criminal justice system.  It's an incredible feeling to help someone who is accused get their life back when wrongly accused.  It's also nerve-wracking knowing that I hold someone's life and future in my hands.  The money is good but I represent people who are facing having their freedom taken from them and that is where I get my satisfaction.  I'm not in this for the money but for the feeling that I am truly helping someone and their family.
