I have a US Passport and in Sydney at the moment. Though I don't have enough time to get it here and either way its $260! Was wondering if anyone had recent experience getting a Brazilian visa in Santiago or Buenos Aires. How long did it take and how much was it? $260, yeouch. I understand that the fees are reciprical but I thought it was only $100...

  1. I got a visa in Santiago about three years ago, so I don't know if it is still the same.  I paid $100 dollars and it took three business days.  I had to take my passport to the Brazilian Embassy, which is downtown, and leave it there.  I picked it up three days later and they had inserted visa that took up one page.  It allowed me to enter Brazil as many times as I wanted for as long as I had that passport.  Good Luck.

  2. The reciprocal fee has gone up and in Brazil they will take your picture and fingerprints just as the do to foreigners in the US.  There is a separate line in Brazilian customs just for american people. But getting the visa is not difficult at all, it is just very expensive. I would get it in Santiago, things there are much more organized than in Buenos Aires.
