I'm moving to Central London in September for Universit, and i was wondering whether any Londoners could give me any advice on where to go and what to do etc :)

I've grown up in a small town, and i'm a bit weary about making the big move to the capital city!

  1. dont come you'll get stabbed

theres too many hoodies and ''gangs''

run away while you can, i am

  2. When i go to uni next year, i'm getting as far away from London as possible!!

Rough areas, terrible crime, but for all its criticism, the transport network is second to none.

Living in a small town, it's a nice place to go see the sites around and all the amazing shops in the west end.

But yes, be wary of gangs and crime, it's on the up.

  3. you will love it kid, there is tons to do and once you adjust to the pace you will be kewl!

my advice is make as many friends as you can as fast as you can, london can be a really lonely place, so get involved with life here.

       lived here all my life.

  4. Unless you run into the middle of a council estate with your phone out, you are not likely to get stabbed.  Crime is high but most is concentrated in certain poor areas, the biggest risk in Central London is from pickpockets and the occasional p**s-head.

There are literally thousands of bars and clubs, you just have to look around in the day for what to do in the evening.  There's the theatre in the West End although that will probably be too expensive for a student, and loads of cinemas in Leicester Square.

To be honest, although it's one of the greatest cities in the world London isn't the best place for a student, because it's so expensive.  You will perhaps do best just to have house parties where you buy cheap booze from shops, all get pissed, then wake up in the morning having shagged someone you don't know.  That's how most students pass their 3 years.

  5. Im sorry i dont know, but if you research a little on the net.. it gives you an idea. I live in Australia.. but it sounds nice.

  6. Don't You Dare listen to those people who have answered before and after me that have said stay away, be afraid of knives. Get a grip people we have to adapt to the situations that are brought apon us and move on doing what we want to do!

Now I am a 16 year old living in Kensington and I absolutly love it, there is no other place like it in the country in my opinion and I have no plans what so ever to move away from the area, and I wouldn't be able to move countries or even too far up north because I would miss it sooo much.

There is so much to do, great resturants, theaters with hit musicals, comedies and other great arts, many art of photography galleries, fab sites, clubs (including the famous Ronnie Scotts), and parks (you wouldn't assosiate London with green land but here we have so many great parks. One I would reconmend is Primrose Hill on the north side of Regent's Park in the Camden are. Here you can see everything in London from The London Eye & Post Office Tower (BT Tower) to the City (Financial Area) and even Canary Wharf. Also living in London you will find loads of little gems that you would like to keep to yourself :D

Whilst being at Uni you will make friends with people who the know the area better than you and they will help you loads.

Hope this is helpful and hope you have fun

    Good luck

    Sam (A Londoner)

  7. London is a scary place to be at the moment.  I am not from London but will not live there because of the high rate of stabbings...also London is full of immagants...nothing against immagrants but I think it is wrong that at a school in Central London the pupils speak in total 250 different languages!!!  Crazy...

  8. its expensive and scary but fantastic.

    - dont shop in cornershops, theyre 4 times the price of supermarkets

    -  dont get in dodgy minicabs - text 'home' to cabwise - 60835 and they'll send you a number of 2 nearest licensed firms

    - dont say 'yeah why not' when some **** with a notebook comes up to you at a gig and says 'we're having an afterparty with the band wanna come?'

    - follow the student herd to their bars/clubs and exploit being a student while you can

    - allinlondon.com and beerintheevening.co.uk are great for finding stuff near you

londons not evil - its just a bit pretentious

    have fun xxxx

  9. probaly amazing

  10. depressing, noisy, dirty, decadent, scary, lonely, dismal, expensive, smelly,  dark.

  11. London is an exciting place to live and work if you stay away from the areas where drugs are being sold openly on the streets. These areas are mainly black neighbourhoods although, the politically correct idiots would say that it is racist to tell the truth. You only need to look at the areas where most of the gun crimes are committed to find out that they are generally young blacks pushing drugs.

  12. Like you small town etc. lived in London for 5 years after about a week you will find you push and shove like everyone else and when you settle it is a nice place.

Can be frighting if you let it be, just be streetwise..good luck and enjoy.

  13. I lived there for a couple of years during the late 90s (also as a student). It was my first time living in a big city in the west. I found it to be fun but expensive. The transport was good and the clubs were good but it got rowdy and a bit scary after dark. There were many people from every race and country living together, it was very interesting to see and was very different from where I grew up.

  14. im wondering the same thing as im moving to london for six months on the 31st of july from America!!! i rly dont want to go!!!!!

  15. don't worry london is great!!!!!

've been there like twice for 3 three weesks each trust of course people will help you!!!!!

    when you need it !!!!

    like it's great there!!!!!

  16. London is a great city and it is what you make of it.  You'll make friends.  Londoners can seem cold to begin with but if you talk to them first, you'll see we're actually really friendly.   It's (despite what the papers like to say) quite a safe city as long as you use your common sense same as anywhere.  You'll probably meet a group of like minded people at University and you'll be fitting in before you know it.  Don't be intimidated or scared about the size of London - it's really just a whole bunch of small towns stuck together.

  17. Its good and bad the same as anywhere else. You can't go wrong for Camden for a night out, on a student budget you may struggle a little though.
