What's it like living in Orange County?

I live in the ugly part of California and I hate it...

I want to move to Orange County.

Are houses/apartments really expensive there?

Orange County is VERY expensive.  If you find a cheap place to live... think twice about checking the neighborhood out.

Places to seriously avoid are certain parts in Santa Ana and Garden Grove.  All cities have areas that aren't too desirable.... however... these two cities need extra precautions.

Orange County is broken up into two main sections - South County and North Orange County.

South County is pricey- the cities border the coast line or are within a couple of miles of the coast.

North Orange County is also expensive but not as expensive as South County.

PRICES:  

Cheapest: You could get an studio apartment for $600.00 a month in Santa Ana but I would be fearful of my life and afraid to sleep at night.... It's cheap for a reason.

Average: You're looking at anywhere from $1,000 (studio) to $2,500 for a two bedroom apartment.

If you want to rent a house, that can be extremely expensive too. If you're lucky and you can find a great condo location you might find a 2b/1bath for $1,750/month. Most houses will run from $2,000 to $3,500 a month.

Most single people who don't live with their families rent with roommates. You can check out craigslist.com or roommates.com.

If you decide to move here with roommates, be careful if you don't know them. Meet them first, go with your gut first impression. If something feels funny, walk away.

housing is still high and rent i very high

there are alot of places but can you aford over $ 1600 a month

h**l yeah it's expensive.  But for good reason.  My cousin used to live in Huntington Beach when I lived in Long Beach, and it's NICE.  I can't say what her dad's job is cuz then I'd have to kill you, but you can imagine the way they live off that income.  And they buy a new Mercedes Benz every year like clockwork, cuz they can.  But in some places it may be cheaper.  Like Santa Ana.  It's really pretty.  I wish I could go back to Cali...
