What's a normal day like? Do you feel like things are being accomplished? How are you treated by the Iraqi civilians? Just curious. And thank you for protecting me and my family:)

  1. Long long days, 14 hour patrols. The worst thing is how long the deployments are, its hard to wake up and go to work when you know you have another 18 months. Afghanistan is far worse than Iraq. Overall the civis are nice, just have to be careful. I know a guy that loved my sargent, then his son was killed by strays that had nothing to do with us, well this guy shot my sarg with an RPG in the leg even though they had been good friends for months, but as soon as his son was killed he was against us.

The RPG didnt explode so instead of being in a million pieces, he just had his leg broken.

  2. Life for a troop in Iraq is tough. It's hot, dusty and smells like f***s everywhere you go. Maintenance on weapons and equipment is hard and the sandstorms are unbelievable. As far as things being accomplished, I think the point that violence is down sends that point home. Iraqi civillians and Iraqi military treat everyone differently. The civillians are not much different than people in the US, other than the fact that they are devout in faith, more so than most americans. They tend to be a little more open to us being there day by day, but they are not ready to sustain themselves yet.

  3. HOT, S****y, boring, tiring, dirty, hated every second of it. Yes i went to iraq in 2005 it was bad bad bad. Then i went in 2007 and it did a 180 from the first time i went. Iraqi civilians love marines the children love us the best because we give them candy, clothes, shoes, pencils, paper, etc...

Your welcome you do your job i did mine

    Sgt. Bell, Brian E.

  4. awhhh no problem  = )

  5. A normal day is like anyother work day in the states, but you are on guard and you carry an M16 whereever you go. The Iraqi civilians were actually very nice. Friendly. I do feel like things were being accomplished.
