I've always wanted to be homeschooled every since high school started (i'm in my freshman year, school started about 4 weeks ago...or 5?) and it seems like such a drag. Some days it's just like "Ohhk wow, I can't do this anymore is too much..!!" when I only have like, 3 assignments or 2.. :/ But my mom would never have me be homeschooled, i heard it costs a lot..

  1. I'm homeschooled for free. We don't follow a specific curriculum. My school is the library, and every other place I go that teaches me something. I LOVE it. People call me a walking encyclopedia, lol.

Going to museums, experimenting at home, biology at a river, hiking in the mountains and learning the names of trees... that's the way to go. Books, books and more books. And Nova, National Geographic, History Channel, PBS, etc.

It's a great relief to be homeschooled. You learn all the time, anywhere, and everywhere.

When I went to public school I hated it too. You only spend about 1 hour a day learning something. The rest of the time is spent taking roll, getting kids calmed down, getting off subject, and listening to immature kids talk about what kinds of drugs they took last night, or who they want to go out with.

All I know, is that i'll never, ever force my kids into public school. I'll homeschool them until they decide otherwise.

  2. So I am a junior in highschool and I have been homeschooled my whole life! It really is amazing! So many people homeschool differently, I do this way that my mom calls unschooling. Basically I have math work books(currently algebra 2) and I do them, when I have questions I ask one of my parents. I really never had any work books for anything else, I learned my history and grammar and english from reading books. I go through at least 2 a week. I have gotten hooked on books on tape because you can listen to them while your doing chores or I especially like to listen to them when I am doing art. It sucks that your mom won't let you homeschool, I don't know what sort of a person your mom is so I can't really give you tips on how to convince her to let you homeschool. Don't let her say it is to expensive because it's not! Inless you like paying for a tutor to come to your house and teach you everyday, homeschooling is practically free. You do have to pay a registered teacher to sign some paper every year saying that you can homeschool, but usually that is only like 50 dollars at the most. My math books I just get from the library and make sure not to write in them. It really isn't difficult to homeschool someone, good luck!

  3. I homeschool my son and he loves it.  He actually goes to a homeschool academy twice a week with a teacher and class and then is homeschooled three times a week at home.  He still gets social interaction and is on the volleyball team and yearbook club.  The cost is free.  It is completely funded by the state.  They give us all the book and curriculum and I just download his school work every five weeks.  It is a great set up and my son loves it as do I.  My husband deploys a lot and it allows for the flexibility we like when he returns.  Homeschooling gets a bad rap, but it just depends on the individual and your dedication.  Good luck.

  4. well high school cost more then being homeschooled

aslo you get to sleep in and get done way before 18

  5. Homeschooling is an amazing enviroment for kids and teens to be in, because they're learing what they REALLY need to know, and what they really want to learn. my mother (who's been homeschooling me since I dropped out of third grade) suggests you read the Teenage Liberation Handbook, but, um, the way we do it is unschooling which is similar to homeschooling, but we have no established curiculum(sp?) and we learn whatever we want. Like curently I'm taking japanese, and am working on my writing skills.

    and like one of the people above me said (sorry, forgot your name) your parents don't have to be at home for you to homeschool, they can just give you your assignments in the morning before they leave for work, and then check over them and help you when they get back. and it cost near nothing. i mean, come on, it's called THE LIBRARY and INTERNET XD;;

  6. Homeschool is awesome! and if cost is an issue Have you heard of the library? You can do all your school for FREE there! Well Homeschool is So much better than Public and I find you learn more bieng homeschooled!

  7. I agree.

It is actually a lot easier.

    I go to continental academy.

I have all the free time i want. Its a lot better.

    Mine only clost about 450.

  8. I think homeschool is different for each family, each student.  We use the relaxed eclectic style.  If something doesn't work, we re-direct.  If something works well, we look for other subjects in the same format.  We spend very little on books; finding everything at yardsales, used books fairs, and second hand stores.  We use the library.  Our style is not 'accredited' but it works for us.

Our day consist of mornings for explaining assignments, 'teaching', reading and discussing.  The middle of the day is for assignments and chores.  The end of the day is for checking work and discussing anything that needs to be discussed.  We have more free time than when it was all day in school and all afternoon, evening for homework.

Added note:  I plan the assignments one week in advance.  I plan one easy day every 2 weeks for 'catch up work' or reward day if all assignments are complete.

  9. well if i get homeschooled by a cyber charter school and i have teachers that u talk to online and they provide the books and a computer and internet for free u just have to send back!peace out!

  10. Actually, when you get right down to it homeschooling is cheaper than public school. You don't need a backpack, all the supplies, school clothes, money for lunch everyday, etc.

Homeschooling is great. I absolutely love it. I have soooo much free time to do what I want now. I get to go places, do things, and take up new hobbies.

You know why school is such a drag? Because it's a waste of time. The only reason kids go to school for 8 hours a day is because their parents are at work. There's absolutely no reason for kids to be in school that long. Why does it take other kids 8 hours to do their work when it only takes me 2 or 3 hours?

If you want to be homeschooled then you should ask. You never know what your parents will say unless you ask them.

They will probably say that they can't homeschool you because they have to work. But, actually they don't have to be home to homeschool you. My mom works and she still homeschools me. She gives me my assignments in the morning before she leaves and then I complete them throughout the day. If I need help with something then she helps me when she gets home.

  11. I think its neat cuz i have a 3 year old daughter and i can get my high school diploma and watch her at the same time and is free.

  12. I am homeschooled. I have been homeschooled since my freshman year, and one word, GREAT!!! Homeschooling is the best and I love it, but it is not for everyone. just like public school is not for everyone.

I go to school once a week. I do it through my local school district so I pay nothing, but doing it through private companies does cost money. There are some reasonable one out there and yes there are some that are expensive. It sucks that your mom would never let you be homeschooled.

  13. I totally agree with what "PhotoMe" said and I had the same kind of homeschool experience.  And public schools do give out a crazy amount of homework. BUT... if you have the kind of attitude that school is too much work, you would have to make sure if you did homeschool that you would actually do the work and resist the urge to watch TV, get online, etc.  That's probably the most difficult thing about homeschooling.

If you want to try to convince your parents to let you homeschool, I think the best thing to do is research.  Check out some programs or books and see how much they cost.  Find out what the laws are in your state (google HSLDA for some laws).  Look up homeschool groups in your area... that type of thing.

Another thing you could do is use one Saturday morning or something to "pretend" you're homeschooling already to see if you could do it.  You could use your real homework so that you're not wasting time... but instead of knowing that it's due on a certain date, pretend the only person enforcing the due date is your mom, or even you.  Would you still have the dedication to do it?  If not, then homeschooing might not be your best bet.

  14. Some parents don't pay anything for their children to be homeschooled.  For instance, you can use www.flvs.net and get homeschooled through there site around the world and it's free because it's an online public school.  It's based in FL, but it doesn't matter because they even take kids internationally.  I took classes with them before and it's not hard at all.  Also, you can check to see if your state offers a virtual school or academy online.

Now, to answer your question, it's great to be homeschooled.  Kids go to school at a high school and they have 6 different teachers that teach 6 individual subjects.  You have about 45min. and it take a good part of the class for the teachers to explain and answer the classes questions.  What ever you don't finish in class turns into homework along with the original homework that was assigned.  The average kid spends about 8 hours in school and gets an additional 3 hours worth of homework.  In my state, you are required 4.5 hours of school work.  I finish in 2 because there are no interruptions from a class.  I don't get homework because I do all the work independently.  I also wake up when I want and do the work when I want.  There is no specific time for homeschool.  I could do it at the library, in the car, or in my very own room.  Since I am now 18 I don't have to follow the state regulations for homeschooling, so I don't even have to do 4.5 full hours.  Like I said before, I finish in as little as 2 hours.  I use a private online/correspondence school.  They keep track of all my records for me.  I have more time in the day to do other things, like have a full time job and help out around the house.  So,  here is some insite on what it's like for a homeschooler to be homeschooled.  :)

Here are some sites to help you out.
