What's it like to live in Arizona?

I'm thinking of moving there after I finish college. More interested in the Phoenix area, but if you can give me your input on other areas in the state I'd welcome that too. Is there a lot to do for people in their early 20s? And is there a decent public transportation system that goes to L.A.?

  1. Phoenix is huge, so yes! there's a lot to do here. Outdoor activities are limited in the summer, but it doesn't stop a lot of people. Scottsdale has the big club scene. Tempe is college party town. Downtown Phoenix has a few places and art galleries, Glendale now has the West Gate City Center and the Arrowhead Entertainment District. If you can't find anything to do here, there's something wrong with you!

Drive or fly to L.A.....there's Greyhound if you don't mind a 10 hour drive.

  2. "And is there a decent public transportation system that goes to L.A.? "

Ah, kids today just crack me up.. lol..

  3. Do it. I stupidly moved back to Michigan and ask myself "why?" I did not love him that much.  The first summer you will get tired easily (heat) and always have a water bottle with you but after that it is fine. I loved it.

  4. AZ is mostly retired people

  5. You get to dodge the illegals trying to drive.

Going from mule to car is quite a task.

Then have those who are so important they try to talk and drive!

    Very high insurance rates!

Schools always have a lice problem.

Public transportation to L.A., use your thumb.

People have no respect for laws, rules or your property.

Very backwards State and Phoenix is at the top!

  6. It is great!  I was born and raised here, and I still love it.  It gets hot, but it's not that big of a deal.  Takes 5 hours to drive to LA or 50 mins to fly.  The flights are usually cheap.  Public transit leaves much to be desired.  They are building a light rail system, but who knows if that will work or not.

All in all, it is awesome here!

    Good luck!

  7. We are over 300 mile from LA so no there isn't a public transit bus that goes to LA. You can take a Greyhound bus there if you want. Tempe is the city that you would be looking for. It is a college town full of young people to party with.

  8. I am not that sure, I just came back from Flagstaff a couple of weeks ago, and just drove around Phoenix, since that was where my flight was, I've been thinking, when I get out of high school I might want to move there, it's like a different world, the people are the friendliest, and the climate is awesome (if you like a dry heat). You can get a decent house for a decent price I am sure, your not far from other cities like Albuquerque, Los Angleles, Las Vegas, etc. If your into sports there is always something going on, all year round. There are young people around from what I saw, there are some big universities the state. If you want to LA, you can just take a express flight, also I just checked Amtrak's website, from Tuscon and Phoenix you can take take a train into LA.

  9. i hated living in AZ..lived both in Phx and Tucson..in Tucson my apt was burglarized while i was at work one day..another day came out to my car being vandalized and no...before you ask, i didnt have any enemies..i was new to the state and the area and didnt know anyone.  wages are low, crime is high and the temperature is higher...i lived in Tucson for awhile and my car was broken into..i really felt like i had done something wrong and was being punished, it was like living in h**l...i settled a law suit and moved outta there the very next day after my money was in my bank account

  10. it's too hot in the spring and summer so i found out when i lived there in 1968.

  11. ITS FREAKIN HOT ! literally Arizona is nothing but a desert with people and buildings. It can get VERY hot during the summer and i mean temps between 110-123 ! but when it gets cold, its really nice and if u like driving, u can drive up to Flaggstaff or Prescott-----it snows over there and its only a 2-4 hour drive ! but dont buy houses in Prescott i mean they are literally the "old town" part of AZ like with the old lamp posts, and grociery stores, and everybody knows everybody n its a great place but the houses are around $1,000,000.00 !

  12. its hot and there is a lot of stuff to do in the city

  13. The Phoenix area is generally very conservative. Tempe is about the only place where most people are not stuck in the dark ages. I like Tucson, it is smaller and more progressive than Phoenix. You could also try Flagstaff which is much more bearable in summer - the Phoenix heat is murder. Bisbee and Jerome are interesting towns but very small so it would be hard to get a job there.

  14. its hot and there is nothing to do

  15. Think about moving somewhere other than Phoenix. It's hot there, low wages, high utility bills, car insurance and registration, horrible crime, one of the worst public transportation systems in the US, and in order to get to LA you will be on a Greyhound bus or airplane. No trains from Phoenix, the idiots in charge stopped that several years back.

There are much better places for someone your age to live than Phoenix.
