Hi there, I'm a sixteen year old student who is looking for a part time job at the mo. I thought that Starbucks looked like a fun place to work at especially as all the people there seem really nice! Please could anyone tell me about their experiences joining starbucks?

Cheers loads, Will.

  1. Starbucks is a terrible company to work for. I've been working there for 4 years. I started right outta high school as a barista (entry level) and am now a store manager. The company is going down hill and FAST! The managers are not ALLOWED to care about their employees, they only care about numbers. There is better money to be made with better companies!

  2. Starbucks is a great place to work. They instill a passion in their partners (workers) that I have never experienced in any other company. If you decide to pursue an opportunity with them I suggest being prepared to show initiative and ownership. They want someone who is willing to go the extra yard to get things done. Also you need to leave home at home.

The job is a very customer focussed position, so if you don't relish the idea of asking Joe Blow about his day while secretly mourning the death of your favourite pet you may want to think twice.

Starbucks is like a cult, a coffee cult, be prepared to drink lots of coffee and share ideas with other workers. If you hate drinking coffee, are allergic to coffee or have a problem with how beans are cultivated you may want to pursue another dream job.

You learn so much and your opinion is valued. I loved my job until my store was closed, good luck!

  3. I just started working there in May, and I love my job there! It takes a while to learn how many pumps of syrup and shots of espresso go in each drink, but you'll learn. You go through paid training for the first two weeks, then you become a certified barista and get a cool pin lol.

Customers can be rude, like telling you how to do your job. Starbucks has a 'just say yes' policy, that says basically the customer is always right no matter what. So if they want 5 pumps of chocolate in their tall mocha frappuccino instead of 1, then they get 5.

Usually fellow partners are really considerate in helping you learn, and if you have a question about a certain drink they are always willing to help you.

Hope you join our wonderful team!

  4. Starbucks is very challenging, but still probably one of the best places to work ever. The people there are great, if you get hired you'll find the other employees are so helpful and genuinely nice to you. Starbucks is probably the only part time employer in the US that offers Health Benefits  to part time employees. As long as you work 20 hours a week, you are eligible for health, dental and many other benefits, even hypnotherapy to help you quit smoking. You also get to have so much fun with customers. Unlike most places you wont get in trouble for talking while you work. If it's somewhat quiet and some regulars or family come in, it wouldn't be any problem for me to go sit down and chat with them for a bit. If you get a job there, don't be shy, don't be afraid to be yourself, and i guarantee it will be the best job of your high school life.

  5. Its h**l dealing with psuedo-intellectual highschoolers

  6. its fun but hard work, especialy if you are running the coffee machines in the morning when it is packed.  you should try it!
