Question:

What's it like to work fast food?

I know it can't be great and judging from the stigma, it's the least sought after job on the planet. But can anyone that works at a fast food place or has ever worked at one share their experience? How bad was it? Or was it good? Did you feel degraded on a daily basis by customers and staff or was it better than everybody else thinks?

Just curious

  1. I worked at Burger King and it was pretty fun at times because I worked the night shift and the co-workers were pretty cool.  But, there were times where the customers were so rude!  I was in college and working part time and it would irritate me when some idiot dressed like a bum would yell at me for his food.  But, I would never take that time back.  As cliche as it sounds, I think working at a fast food joint made me a better person.  I learned to serve and be humble even when some people are jerks.  =)

  4. It's a lot of work. You have to be fast and careful to do it right. If you get proper training, it can be ok. You'll be on your feet most if not all of the time.

  5. I currently work for McDonald's and it is not easy. We get nasty, rude customers that will never be happy no matter what we do. People think they have the right to be rude just because it is fast food and our store manager has told us to just send ones like that away because we don't have to put up with it. I have been there for  1 1/2 years and have only had to actually send 2 people away for being rude (One of them is actually crazy...literally) I have no problems with the other staff, other than one lazy manager, but she is on her way out and is too stupid to realize it.

  6. its fun i used to work at kfc before

i just made their sandwiches ,cleaned lobby and bathroom

  7. Because a lot of young people work in those jobs, many employers won't follow the labour code and the young employees aren't even aware of the laws in place to protect them that are being broken.  Also, you'll probably come home smelling gross and deep-fried.

I've found the degradation from customers is about the same as almost any customer-service job, so I'd say that's neither a pro nor a con.

And then the perks are discounts on food that is incredibly unhealthy for you, but incredibly delicious.  Every now and then you'll also luck out and have really awesome co-workers, or a decent boss, or something like that, but that could also happen at any job.

And it certainly isn't the worst job out there, as anyone who watches the show 'Dirty Jobs' would know.  But the minimum wage I was making was just not enough to keep me making pizzas.

  8. Does Subway count as fast food? I'm currently employed at one, and I love it

  9. my friend works at the new jack in the box they opened in my town and he said its not that bad. why do you want to know??

  10. I've been working at McDonalds for approx. 3years...i never feel degraded i am an extremely hard worker and it shows in my performance...i know ALL areas including supervisor/shift manager...i love serving customers, especially in the McCafe' making coffee's is an art and i feel very confident making any drink on the menu...i'm also studying traineeship i'm almost on my 3rd folder...the only bad times are when equiptment breaks down, or customers are un-happy...
