my grandma has been feeding birds for a few months now there used to be a lot of them now there aren't too many and we're finding dead ones all the time. one of them we found today wasn't dead yet, but it couldn't fly, but it's wings were fine. its tail was pointing up, and it kept bending its neck either forward or back and stayed like that. and when it tried to move it fell face first. what's wrong with them?

  1. make sure the seed is dry ,change it regularly ,you can get  mold or mildew spores in wet seed, which might be toxic.but more likely some one has broadcast rat poison nearby. also possible bird flu ,don't handle injured/dead birds, get no closer than a shovels length.........tom

  2. Dakota,in one of my answers lately I invited Y A's  to look to the sky and count how many birds they could see, because over the skies of Norfolk UK, they are few and far between. I think it is the effect of herbicides and pesticides, generally used by farmers. The birds food chain is anialated, so they are forced to resort to the food we give them i e bread and c**p. Where we once wondered at the sight of the influx of migrating birds, we are now lucky if we see any, A food chain infected with pesticides does cause deformities.  Cats kill or injure 3 million birds every year.

  3. probably a cat or something

  4. what are ya'll feeding them?

  5. This is a problem with a lot of our little flying things -- bees, fireflies, etc -- so I'm not surprised it's affecting birds (who eat those other things). Lots of factors can affect them. Global warming, cell phone towers, pollution. Do your best for the environment -- and vote Democrat!

  6. You should call the health dept.  Maybe they have west nile virus.  Or,  There could also be a cat on the loose.

  7. it might be the food bird killer!!!!!! i have 6 lovebirds

  8. human bcuz of the global warming

  9. your grandma is probably into some kinda of crazy voodoo stuff and accidentally fed one of her ingredients to the birds =/
