  1. To add to the great posts above, most people speak both English and French, so if you can't speak French it's not a big deal.  Most of the tourists who go can't speak French.

  2. Montreal in fact is the only city in Quebec province where citizens won't turn their nose at you if you don't speak Fench - it's the most accepting, alluring city in all Quebec province in my opinion.  Lovely architecture, beautiful gardens & places, wonderful people.  Very European in feeling, yet with a Quebequoi welcome.  I love it!

  3. Blueboy said it very well. It is very european. Warm spirited people friendly and social. Certainly sophisticated. It is the one city where you would swear everyone does well financially as dressing well is important to alot of younger people. In summer we love our festivals and in winter we get out and skate, ski and for some ice fish (beats me the thrill of sitting in a small hut over a hole in the ice but hey) It is multicultural but the working language is french. I love the city and yes I am biased I live here.

  4. surprisinngly everyone speaks english, they love it when you attempt to speak french (its a sign of respect). theres plenty to do, lots of university students, and i hate the fact that everything closes at five on a saturday.

  5. Hi

It is like an  European City

  6. One of the most interesting cities in the world. People talk about cities of contrasts well Montreal truly exemplifies this. It is a city of mostly French speaking citizens, in a mostly English speaking country. They have some of the oldest European architecture on the continent yet is a thriving North American metropolis. It has an obsession with Hockey, Fries + Cheese + Gravy, topless restaurants (exactly what it means) and the meaning of the word Nation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qu%C3%A9b%C... It is a world centre for design, video gaming, electronic music. Montreal is considered much more outgoing and laid back then its English counterpart Toronto. It is also the second coldest metropolis after St. Petersburg; a seasoned Montrealer will drive in 3ft of snow, and will know why there's a tent the size of the driveway in the garage. They're fashion sense and eye for the "cool" is impeccable - this is only emphasized by the design of their Metro stations - and the Circus is ALWAYS in town.

I was born there so I'm obviously biased. I'm now a Torontonian (and loving it), but Montreal will always be close to me. "Je me souvien" ineed!
