What's more Eco-Friendly: A pencil or a pen?

Like what materials are used in making regular pens/pencils and are these materials harmful to the enviornment if you throw them away?

Pens are made of plastic which is derived from petroleum, which is not renewable.  It also takes longer to decompose than the wood in pencils.  Nearly all pens are designed to be thrown away when they run out of ink.  In addition to the wasted material, more energy must be used to produce new pens.  Even if you find a pen that is refillable, the cartridges get thrown away.

Wooden pencils are made of cedar, a renewable resource.  They contain graphite (not lead).  Graphite is carbon, not really that toxic.

Mechanical pencils are made of plastic, a non-renewable petroleum product,  HOWEVER they are refillable.  Because mechanical pencils are refillable, they waste much less material.  No wood shavings going into the trash.  Less graphite being wasted from sharpening.  And unlike pens which are "disposable", mechanical pencils can be used for a lifetime if you never loose it.  Even the erasers are refillable.  Instead of replacing the entire pencil, you just replace the lead that you have used.  

My vote for most eco-sensitive writing utensil = mechanical pencil.

neither...both are being made prob in the same factory that is realesing all those harmful gasses into the atmosphere...i hate to say it but it doesnt seem that humans understand and they fail to realize is that all-natural or going green or eco friendly products are not necessarly better for you or the enviorment. Humans are going to effect the enviorment no matter what

when you throw away a pen, it doesnt decompose, but you sharpen a pencil, and the shavings DO decompose, so do u see my point,  pencils rock!
