Olympic gold in basketball or an NBA Finals

Olympic gold - You join the elite in your country to win gold against other world power houses

NBA Finals - You play w/ 1-2 elite players that could be in the US squad and you play against other elite US players and great foreign talent in the best basketball league in the world

  1. Depends on what country you play for. If you put it to a Vegas oddsmaker, he'd say an Olympic gold is harder to win.

I'll give a view of this from an average player's point of view.

First of all, you have to peak at the right time to even make the team because the Olympics only roll around every four years. That is, assuming your not the teams two or three perennial superstars. Then, your country's team has to be good enough to qualify. Then if they do qualify, you have to win enough to make the playoff bracket. If you keep winning through that, your reward is ultimately to get smashed by the USA (unless you play for the USA, which is a different story).

Winning an NBA championship is no easy feat either, but if you're a role player, you can take a pay-cut to sign a three or four year deal to play for a annual championship contending team (Spurs, Lakers, Pistons). Assuming you aren't traded, there's a good chance one out of those three or four years your team will win the NBA championship.

  2. Olympic gold medal if you are not in Team USA.

  3. An Olympic medal. Cuz in the NBA finals you win as a team and in the Olymics youre by youre self.

  4. NBA Finals is harder

  5. olympic gold cos it only comes round once every 4 years.

  6. Depends on what team you are in.

For the NBA finals, it is hard as it is a 7 series games which can be mentally and physically quite daunting. Before reaching the finals, you have to be able to qualify and reach the playoffs( which can be hard if you're in the talent-packed western conference ). Look at Boston, they won this year but it wasnt easy they were almost eliminated in the playoffs by the Hawks and Cavaliers before meeting a very good team in Kobe and Co.

For the Olympic Gold, the only reason why I view it as hard is that once you've passed the group stage, it is a one game elimintation. Therefore, even good teams might fail under the pressure and it is not always the best team that wins. Its a mixture of luck and skill. Being on a good team also affects your chance. If you're playing for team USA, it would be close to a sure thing to get a Gold. But if you are playing for Angola, then the odds are very low.
