Looking at some HDTVs. One is 5 ms but 60 hz. Another is 8 ms but 120 hz. Which figure is more important?

  1. Milliseconds indicates the responsiveness of the LCD panel.  The lower the number, the less likely you will have problems with visual smear in high speed imagery.

60Hz and 120Hz indicates refresh rate.  The higher the refresh, the more "steady" or "stable" the image may appear, especially in motion.

Ultimately, however, the best way to judge is to merely watch the TVs performing and decide for yourself which looks better to you.  If you can't make sense of the numbers, don't try and, instead, rely on your senses.

After all, what you see remains the most important thing, so go with what has the best picture to you.

  2. ms. That is in the time domain. Hz is the frequency of the refresh rate.
