Question:

What's my heritage?

My skin is very pale (you can see nearly all of my veins) but I get rosy cheeks, my eyes are blue and my hair is dark blonde/ light brown, thick and very curly. Also, I have high cheekbones.

My mum reckons I might be something Eastern European at some point.

In particular, where does thick curly hair come from?

I'm English, with some Irish ancestry (about a 1/4, at a guess)

  1. There's no way to know. Although your family is Anglo/Irish in recent generations, 10 generations ago you had over 1000 grandparents (about 300 years ago).  20 generations ago you had over 1 Million.  30 generations ago you had 100 Million.  This tells you you're drawing features from a great many sources.  Most people think they know their heritage, but are really tracing their "name's" heritage.  This is great and a source of pride and tradition, but not reasonably accurate.  What we do know is fair-skinned people are throughout Asia, Europe in ancient times, and nearly everywhere at present.  Good luck in coming to an understanding with your heritage.

  2. Blondes and fair skinned people also live in the Middle East.  You will have to do a research or have a DNA test done.

As to DNA tests, try www.familytreedna.com.

  3. Well, you just told us your heritage and your appearance pretty well fits. A lot of Irish people have thick curly hair. The only thing I wonder about is your high cheekbones, but I can't say much about that without a picture, and then it would be just guessing anyway. Ask your mom what she knows about your Eastern European ancestry. If she's not sure then who knows, high cheekbones could come from almost anywhere in the world. If they are prominent ie, not just wide or high but both, that is probably not a British trait but it could be Scandinavian, Jewish, Native American or many other possibilities.

  4. Probably Scandinavian or Dutch.

  5. umm definetely not eastern european hunnii......eastern europeans rnt white their indo-european

  6. Instead of trying to figure out your heritage from your looks, you would be better off searching the origins of the surnames in your family. Your surname, your mom's maiden name, her mom's maiden name, and the same on your dad's side of the family.  Here are a couple of links where you can search surname origins:
