I'm just wondering what kind of grades and SAT scores are needed to get into school for pharmacy.

  1. I was admitted to a pre-pharm program for my 4-year degree and to a special Early Admissions Program for pharmacy school. The school admitted 80 students per year and received about ten times that many applications. I ended up dropping out (it wasn't too difficult for me, I found my calling elsewhere), but here were the minimums for my program in 2003:

    * from high school: 1100 SAT (I had 1200 - this was all before the new system), 3.5 GPA (I had 3.85 in IB), extra-curriculars (I had several leadership positions and volunteer hours in medical settings)

    * for admittance: high school info from above, an application essay (I talked about how my grandma's heart transplant and my mom's cancer interested me in pharmacy because of how their respective medicines saved their lives), and an interview with several faculty members in the pharmD program (not to mention a fee for all of this!)

    * to maintain my acceptance throughout college: maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA, earn at least a 3.0 term gpa every term, earn at least a 3.3 pharmacy gpa every term, be a full-time student, complete a designated science core AT my university, finish the undergrad portion within three years, and complete all pharmacy courses with a C or higher

Now these were the EAP requirements. I dropped out during my 4th term to switch to English (completely different!). However, if I had failed in any of these areas, I would have been kicked out of the EAP. I could still have applied at the end of my undergraduate program and had a shot at admittance that way.

Anyhow, pharmacy is very competitive so I just recommend (having been through all of this and THEN deciding to do something else!) getting the highest scores possible. I know that seems obvious, but take prep courses for the SAT/ACT. Build yourself up, if only on paper. Volunteer for organizations/causes that relate to medicine, health, and preferably pharmacy. Take accelerated courses and get good grades. For admissions essays, have several people review them for you so they are original, interesting, and well-written.

In short, you want to look great on paper and be able to interview well.

Study hard, celebrate your victories, and keep your goal in sight!

    Good luck! :)

  2. Your first step is to get admitted to a 4 year college and go through their 2-3 year pre pharmacy program. Most people will not get accepted into pharmacy school with just that, pharmacy school is extremely competitive, something like 1/9 whom apply get accepted each year. Chances are you wont get accepted without a 3.5+gpa, a finished bachelores degree and in pharmacy work experience, other things such as extracurriculars and volunteer work will also help your chances

  3. you'll need a bachelors degree. it can be any major, but the pre-reqs can all be satisfied with a biology, chemistry, or biochemistry major.  you're looking at college gpa of 3.2 or higher.

  4. It all depends, but these days you may need a 3.5 and 1800-2200 sats. It all depends on the prepharmacy program. Good Luck!

  5. It varies from school to school.  You should score as high as you can on everything thing always.  That's the best advice.

  6. I had a 3.7 out of HS and SAT of 1180 and got into one of the best colleges for pharmacy in the US

  7. Around a 1800, good extracariular. ap science class, and ap math. High ranking in your class about 40 or lower.

  8. i'm guessing you mean major in pharmaceutical studies as an undergraduate. there's really no guidelines, just get good scores. really good. and good grades too (above 3.5 gpa). consider the top science schools like ucsd (my school and a pharmacology undergraduate student). then just get good grades in college, experience in research, etc. to be a bona fide candidate for graduate pharmacy school. if you're really committed to pharmacy, research this school.

it's all about pharmacy and they'll admit you into the pharmD program after meeting the specified requirements in your first two years there. but it's pretty selective.
